Is it worth upgrading from the 3GS to the iPhone 4?

Anyone else upgraded from 3GS to 4? I'm interested in FaceTime and the flash for the camera mainly. Don't really see anything else worth upgrading to.

I have sell my 3GS and cover the cost of upgrading, but I will be buying into another 18 month contract and a lower data allowance.

Would appreciate any advice from people who've already done this, and if they are happy they've done so.

    Thanks
    John

I thought it was worth it as the camera is a lot better which is great for pocket snaps, the HD video camera is great too - however, the best feature (as it's the one used most) is the retina display which is absolutely gorgeous and a definite improvement. The 3GS screen used to strain my eyes but no such issues on the iPhone 4.

Edit: I've never ever used Facetime and don't think I'd want to either.

I upgraded from the 1G to the 4G. Its a major improvement over the 3G series. If you bough the 4G, you'd be fairly future proof for 18 months. The next big step won't probably be til iPhone 6 etc.

I've never owned an iphone. But want one. Should I start off with a 3 or 4? Whats the deal with g after it? They have them sim free at apple.ie. They shops just wanna get you on contract not answer questions.

With respect, you should probably know that without having to ask. Don't buy an iPhone because you want one or someone else has one. They are more of an investment and a completely new way of using a phone.

However, the 3GS and the 4 are the two available at the moment. The 3GS is basically an advanced upgrade of the very first iPhone. GPS, Compass and 3G were the main boosts. The 4 however is a complete redesign. It has every feature of the 3GS but with the main new additions of:

    FaceTime (Which I never use)
Better Display and Cameras (The 3GS has one, the 4 has two)
Faster processor and more standard memory (16GB is the base model, the 3GS is only available in 8GB from Apple.ie I believe)

The G means 3G. A bog standard feature on nearly all Nokia's. Basically means fast internet access, the iPhone cannot use video calling on any model.

Personally, if you have the cash, start off on an iPhone 4. Its the premier model and you'll get at least 2 years out of it before the "next big thing" Or you can pick up a second 3GS for about a quarter of the price. Its down to yourself.

    Thanks Ironclaw.
I've had a couple of "smart phones" but not any that have had downloadable apps my friends htc doesn't impress me and I am interested in getting an iphone.
Lots of people have been going on about how good the Iphone 4 is but no-one explains the bare basics about what makes them different. My friends with 3 &4 both have the same operating system on theirs and pretty much say one phone's camera has a flash & the other ones doesn't.

    Thanks for your input ;)

Your welcome. The HTC are a nerdy phone I have to say. Lot more scope if you into making your own App's and want a more computer like phone. I tried them, and don't like it. Some people swear by them.

The main difference between an iPhone 3GS and a 4 is:

    Speed
    Base Memory
    Display

Which isn't much in the difference. If you want to invest in a phone, get the iPhone 4. If you "just want an iPhone" get a 3GS on the second hand market.
