Volkswagen Golf ? Price drop 2011??

    Hi

I am very interested in getting a VW Golf in 2011 but I would only be able to afford an 05.

Do you think the prices of the VW Golf will come down because of the new year so the cars will be one year older. I am not sure about this as I have researched the prices of the cars and they still remain quite high even as a low year of 2004.??

I know they are great cars and do hold there value but im sure an 04 or 05 would have to drop value in 2011??

    Any advice on this anyone?

    Thanks :)

My advice is to buy something else. I can't think of a car with a greater discrepancy between percieved and actual quality than a modern Volkswagen Golf.

The relative value of a secondhand car doesn't come crashing down in January just because it's now a year older. The main reason why it comes down a bit is because of the scramble by new car buyers to get the new year reg. plate.

Most new car sales involve a trade-in so there tends to be a lot of additional cars added to the secondhand pool in the early part of the year and this has the effect of softening prices of older cars but not by a dramatic amount. In the case of popular cars like Golfs and Polos there tends to be a constant demand so when supply increases the latent demand takes up the extra capacity and there is no dramatic decrease in value.

Anan1 does have a point, the secondhand price of Golfs is pretty high which reflects the demand, you might do better in terms of value by aiming for a different model. I don't think he's saying that Golfs are unreliable, I have an 07 Golf and it's never given me one minute of bother. I think the point he's making is that they are overpriced for what you're getting because so many people want to buy one.

No point in turning this into (another) golf/VW thread. They're far from bad cars at the same time.

I have a better understanding now.

I dont get this obsession that people have for the Golf at all. Surely a Focus or a Civic (current model) are a more reliable, less boring option? Certainly worth considering rather than just looking for a Golf only.
