How long does your battery last on average?

How many charge cycles have you done?

Im just curious as I thought my macbook battery died last night but luckily it was just the charger and it eventually started charging.

Mine has 1009 cycles in 22 months - surely this is gonna die soon?

I had my one about 2.5 years before it gave up on me... I cant remember the amount of cycles I got out of it though...

    Cheers.

How long would apple take to ship a new battery?

Like if it stopped working tomorrow and I ordered it tomorrow would it get here the day after?

Or I could buy it in compub which is near by - just thinking out loud.

Try running CoconutBattery to check the state of the battery.

The older batteries were designed to last 300 cycles (Approx. 3 years), the newer longer lasting batteries are designed to last around 1000 cycles (Approx. 5 years). The battery should not have gone through 1000 cycles so quickly - that's over 1 cycle per day.

Do you have Apple Care for the computer? If the battery is defective and you still have Apple Care cover then you are entitled to a free replacement.

Ye I was running coconut battery along with checking in about this mac.

I dont think the batteries defective because I still get 4 hours with turning wifi on and off and adjusting screen brightness.

I easily charged it in and around 2 times a day as I use it a lot especially since this september.

Anyway I got a new macbook pro - but I gave the laptop to my dad so I wanna check when to buy a new battery so hes not left with essentially a desktop in laptop form.

No applecare as I have never saw the need or had the need for it.

    Thanks all.

I don't think those figures are right. I bought my MBP in July 2009, and I've gone through 371 cycles so far. I can't see how they expect 300 cycles in 3 years. The batteries are good, but if you're using your laptop regularly you'll still need at least one charge a day.
My battery health seems to be 91%.

My MBP is almost 4 years old and it has 208 battery cycles, capacity is 90% according to CoconutBattery. Obviously I use the power supply a lot more than you do.

Well manufacturers are naturally going to skew the figures so it looks better.

Coconut battery just btw shows my new macbook pro as having 102% health so I wouldnt trust it for showing the health of a battery.

Wow that means you charged it once a week on average?
I charged it 4.8 times as much in half the time - now in fairness the macbook had a lesser battery so it lasts less.

Conor, you must be connecting and disconnecting it from the mains several times a day on average to have run up that many cycles.

My Macbook Pro is 20 months old and has had 175 cycles. Battery health is 93 percent according to Coconut Battery, but that's probably not accurate as I haven't calibrated it in a while. I bring it to college most days, so the battery gets a fair bit of use.

Had mine since August and already have 86 cycles, with 99% health

1.5 times a day on average.

the battery gives me 4 hours ish with turning wifi on and off and dimming the screen which is what I do in college but even with that it goes through that no problem.

I use this laptop a lot for college alone, then add I use it as a tv essentially its not that surprising.

    Plus its still going.

Tried the coconut battery test and its health is 95% with roughly 220 charges.

But i accidently left it on when i left the house today and now when I tried to recharge it, it has the icon to say its charging but its at 0% for the last 20 mins, no change. I can still use it but only with the charger in it...

    Any ideas?????

Nevermind, did a SMC and that seemed to do the jobby. :)

Lads, to save the battery, should I be charging the battery when I'm at home. Regardless of whether it's at 100% or not?

don't have it plugged in if its fully charged. let it drain down before you recharge

Once it reaches 100 percent it stops charging, so there's no problem leaving it plugged in as long as you don't leave it plugged in all the time. Unplugging it every time it's fully charged will just waste battery cycles.

Apple have some pretty good advice here on how best to preserve the life of the battery.

interesting so if its fully charged we should leave it in?

Yeah, unless you need to take it somewhere. You shouldn't unplug it just because it's fully charged. Doing that could result in you having to charge it several times a day, which will waste battery cycles. It depends on how much you use it though.

I leave my Macbook Pro plugged in while I'm at home, unless I need to use it downstairs or something. It runs off the battery while I'm in college. If, however, you never take it anywhere then you should of course make sure the battery gets some use.

By the way this battery is still getting 2.5-3 hours on wifi for my parents.

I would recommend charging it 1 every 2 days at least as for me that seems to make it last much longer than batteries owned by people who charge it less.

Or I could just be pox lucky.....
