Training logs

2010 was my first year doing any sort of fitness. I quit smoking and took up exercise and did some duathlons and adventure races culminating in Gael Force. But for all the training and effort I didn't keep any sort of log so I have no real idea how many miles I put in running or cycling.

For 2011 I'd like to keep a decent record of what I'm doing. It doesn't need to be anything too fancy. I have a Garmin Forerunner but I don't always take it with me - especially when I'm on a regular route as I often find myself focussing on the damn watch rather than enjoying the run. So tracking with Garmin is not an option.

I've just been googling away and found:
    http://www.davidhays.net/running/runlog/runlog.html
    - holy crap - waaaaay to much information going on there.
    and
    http://www.serpentine.org.uk/pages/training_logs.html
    - now that's more like it. Nice and simple. Probably use the triathlon one to track bike and hoof.

Would you recommend anything else now that you can see that I am the lowest common denominator :D A decent spreadsheet is better than software for me as I'll stick it in Dropbox and access it anywhere.

    Happy Running

It may not meet your needs, but you could try the training logs sub-forum. It may be less formulaic than your needs, but there is a good support network to provide feedback, encouragement, and at times a dash of realism, if you are over-doing things. It doesn't add up your mileage or anything like that, but you could always use the new 2011 - 1,000 mile challenge for that!

Planning on using the sub forum too. But that's more for observations. Might try the 1000 mile challenge too. But still want something just for myself to summarise my training. The second link I posted will most likely do.

For the time-pressed duathlete/triathlete, there are a number of people who follow Don Fink's approach of time vs distance.

Until they get sucked into the vortex of the Boards S/C/R Challenge, that is...

More of a blog than a log.

Something like golden cheetah or WKO and remember to use the Garmin to capture data. Having hard data to go back on years in the future is invaluable.
