Hey all, Hope the christmas treated ye well.

Just wondering about garage plates & how hard it is to get them? I'm a sole trader, registered for VAT & all that jazz but dont work in the motor trade. Thing is tho I've 3 different vehicles at my disposal & depending on the job I'll take what suits but it's becoming a pain in the hole calling the insurance to do temp transfers all the time. Allianz dont do garage insuranc either so cant give me an idea on price etc.

Anyone out there have an idea of cost & how easy it is to get it?

    Thanks

Garage plates don't cover Insurance. They are there to provide cars without a registration number with one for driving purposes, and will cover any car without motor tax. You need a TAN account with the revenue to get them AFAIK, and your business type must be motor related.

To get a Motor Trade Insurance policy which is what you need, you will also need to be in the Motor Trade. Expect to pay around 2k for your first year's cover.

My motor trade policy is with Allianz, so they most definitely do garage policies.

You'd need a fleet policy more so than motor trade.
