xbox live online code redemption problem

    My xbox live account ran out yesterday and didnt notice.
    So as i have been left bankrupt from crimbo i went to cheap xbox live codes and got one month. (itll do for now).

    Went on xbox.com to redeem the code as trying to type in every letter on the controller can be annoying.
    Redeemed, done, great.
    Xbox live now saying im a gold member, nice one.

    Sign into xbox live on console and its still saying im a "free" member.
    Hmm..

    Check account management and it knows im a gold member.
    After many signing out and in, turning off console, (you know, all the usual it fixers) i decided to post this thread now.

    Anyone ever have this happen to them?
    Is there a time lapse between redeeming a code and it actually working?
    This never happened me before
