Replaced the bulbs in the headlights of my van last week,as one had blown
Tonight i took the car out for the first time since the severe weather and one of the headlamps had blown.
On a round trip of 40 minutes i counted at least 50 cars with 1 headlamp blown
Now i know i was more aware of this considering i too had only one headlight but i was wondering has the recent adverse weather affected the headlight bulbs or is this common on the roads.

Safe motoring and happy new year to all

It is possible that the weather may have affected the life of bulbs. Extreme cold weather + turning on of a bulb which becomes extremely hot very quickly.

    However

I would think that its more likely that the blown bulbs are from people who possibly dont know or dont give a hoot.

I recommend you carry a spare bulb/fuse kit in your car and it should truly be a law in Ireland.

A spare bulb kit can cost you around €13 or so and is truly a good aid to have.

not a chance will cold weather blow bulbs, it gets a lot colder in many other countries than here. Did you touch the filament with your fingers as the oil from them will create hot spots and cause pre mature failure, could be just a bad batch of bulbs, i changed mine once and it failed nct for headlight alignment turns out was the bulbs. Also might be a intermittent break in the wiring, witch the bulb over to the other side and see if it works there

There was a huge thread about cyclops cars recently, they are way too common. You either touched the glass when fitting the bulb or there's something else wrong with you're cars.

    +1

Essential if you've a French car - they've an appetite for bulbs :D

99.9% of cyclops cars on the roads is due to idiot drivers, not the weather. Those same drivers will be driving cars with blown bulbs come summer time.

I have HID's in my car...and they won't light as of last night (although if I leave on full beams on the stalk they'll power up after a few seconds)! Something very funny going on with my electrics though...my lights being the first thing, my VTEC controller has been flickering and so has my VTEC engagement light!

The cold may well have something to do with it, I lost a tail light, a headlight and my mother lost a headlight too in the last 3-4 weeks.
