Lost dogs

No, not the Pearl Jam album. :D

I spotted two little dogs that looked very out of place when I went for a run earlier today. One was a small Shih Tzu, and the other was a little terrier.

They were together on the Ballinacurra road this morning, and were like two dogs who were very used to one another. The Shih Tzu had a name tag on it's collar. They got through the railings that lead down to the woods behind Portland Park before I could go over to check them.

Then about 30 minutes ago I was in the area again as I was dropping stuff to my mother's house on Ballinacurra road, and then dropping something to a friend in Ballinacurra gardens, and I saw the same pairing coming up the one way street in Ballinacurras gardens. They looked a lot wetter and looked like they were starving. So I circled the block as it is a one way street, but by the time I did so they had either headed into a garden or up on of the streets there.

Just thought I would mention it in case somebody is missing the two dogs, as they were in that area in the last half hour.

A girl I know who lives in Kilteragh owns a male Jack Russell and a male Shih Tzu - I bet it's them. I don't have a contact number for her though.

Any way you can check with her if they are her dogs? If they are hers I can phone my mate in Ballinacurra gardens to have a walk around to see if he can spot them again.

'Fraid not - used to work with her a few years ago. If they are indeed her dogs, it wouldn't be the first time they've gone wandering. Will PM you.

Got the PM. Have texted my mate in Ballinacurra Gardens to keep an eye out for the dogs and to hang on to them if he sees them.

You have the colours spot on in your PM. Just wish that I was able to get the dogs yesterday

The two poor little things were in the area again today. My mate texted me to say that a bunch of little scummers were pelting rocks at them by the soccer pitch today. He tried to get the dogs after hunting the scummers, but the dogs were too terrified at that point for him to get close to them.

My mate called me to say he saw them again. He got through to where boomerang said the girl works, and it turns out that she still works there, so he left a message for her and his contact number.

If they are her dogs, he will be at least be able to give her a rough idea of where they are, and reduce the search area. He is a big softie for animals so I reckon he will be keeping an eye out for them until they get found.

Further update. My mate spoke with that girl on the phone and she said they are not her dogs.

So I guess someone else is missing those small dogs.

I spotted the them too in Ballinacurra Gardens about 5pm this evening when I was out walking my dog...when they saw my dog they turned and went the opposite direction. I will let the animal welfare know they are out and about.

Animal welfare are not taking in any dogs atm as they have more dogs than they have spaces right now. All they are taking in are emergency cases.

Maybe if you give a buzz as well as me, they might try and find a bit of space for them. The Shih Tzu has what looks to be a name tag on it's collar but getting close is the problem according to my mate.

They were back again. My mate went out to try and catch them but had no luck. I know he rang LAW earlier as soon as he spotted the dogs.

If anyone else is in the Ballinacurra gardens area keep an eye out for them. Both have name tags and both got a bit of food today. They are still nervous my mate says, which is probably due to the scummers pelting them with rocks yesterday, and the Shih Tzu is meant to be a bit stiff in it's walking.

LAW have said that they will take them, but they are short handed at base today so may not be able to get someone in there. I am going over in a while to see if I can help my mate find them, as he has said that if he gets them, he will drive them to LAW in Kilfinane as then he will know that the dogs are somewherre safe.

hi everyone, firstly id like to thank everyone for thier concern over these two dogs. they belong to a friend of mine who lives in ballinacurra. their names are buzz and woody. they stay in his mothers house on the south circullar road and everyday without fail make their way down to his house. we have tried everything to keep them in but they manage somehow to get out, how we dont know. they are well fed, but may however act hungry to get more food! the terrier woody is a particularly starvation of a dog and has an insatiable appetite. everynight they return home at the same time knowing when someone will be home. the unfortunate thing about them getting out is when an incident occurs that scumbags throw rocks at them, otherwise they are very streetwise and enjoy nothing more than a stroll. id like to thank whoever chased the scumbags away also. if you feed these dogs they will DEFINATELY be back for more the following day, so please dont. they are loving, loyal and incredibly intelligent dogs, woody is as old as the hills and his body isnt as fit as it used to be, so he's the brains while buzz has endless energy so he's the brawn. my friend is constantly receiving phonecalls about them from neighbours and the like and LAW informed him that there was people talking about them on boards.,but so long as they are in the ballinacurra/s.cr.rd area they are fine. so please, dont take them in and feed them if you see them, thank you.

Yep my mate was told pretty much what you said earlier today. LAW had one of their volunteers come out, but they found out that the dogs were not lost just before they were about to take them away. I have to say fair play to the LAW volunteer for coming out too as they do it on their own time and don't get paid for what they do.

I'll pass on to my mate the thanks for going out after the guys throwing rocks at the dogs, as he stopped them from doing it up by the Summerville Rover's pitch.

It's great that they're not actually "lost dogs" but seriously your friend needs to find a way to keep the dogs in. If they are in danger of being hurt which it seems that they are then surely there must be a way to keep them from getting out.(if they're getting out every day the owners can't be trying too hard to keep them in) My 2 dogs love a good wander but they don't get a chance to as they're kept in a garden with a locked gate.

The dogs need to be kept in an area where they cannot get out. Dog's are killed everyday by cars and people for "fun". Personally I don't think it is acceptable answer to say that they always find there way out. The owner needs to find out how they are getting out and block it off. Dogs are even stolen if the wrong person spots them..

LAW won't even let someone adopt a dog if they don't have an area to keep the dog where they cannot get out, and this is a voluntary organisation that doesn't even have space to take any more dogs in! That's how serious it is!

What if the dog's attack passers-by? A dog maybe friendly but pushed far enough they will attack. A small child could grab the dogs tail and the dog could take a chunk out of the child!

Please have a talk with the owner and make sure they keep the dogs locked up!!
