Lost my front plate, and so need to get a new one tomorrow morning. Where can I get one made up? In a motor factors? And what do I need, ie log book.

    Thanks

Most motor factors should be able to make a number plate up, Halfrauds do them. You shouldn't need the log book. Just watch out for Gatso vans on the way there.. Should cost around a tenner

typical of the irish law to not require a log book when getting a set of plates made, i mean i could literally go and get anyone with a similar cars plate made up stick them on my car and go flat past any gatso van and they would get the fine/points.

Get it done in a motor factors. Give them a call before you leave and they should have it made by the time you get there.

Halfords will insist on proof of ownership before they will make a plate.

In fairness, anyone can just go online and get some plates made up too, I don't think you should need proof of ownership.

If someone is scummy enough to clone a car then its not the number plate makers fault. The scum can always rob them off any old car in a carpark too.

It's not going to cost you anything to bring the registration cert. and some ID with you just in case they are a reasonably responsible outfit and ask for proof that you own the reg. no.

I had front and rear plates robbed a couple of years back, they were used on a stolen car in an attempted robbery. I got the garage where I bought the car to make up new plates, they are a main dealer so I was not surprised when they asked me to fax in a copy of the reg. cert. before they would make up new plates.

I got plates made up in a Ford dealership before, no questions asked.

Scum can be thick sometimes.... Most punters would (imo) report the theft of plates to AGS, who would then flag the reg.

Not the last time I needed a new plate. Went in and got it done up in 5 minutes, no questions asked.

Not quite, they can be very devious when they don't want you or anyone else to notice that they have taken genuine plates that are not on the stolen car file. Mine were stolen from my car in an underground car park and replaced with similar looking plates, I only discovered this when three cops came calling to my front door at 3 a.m. the following morning. The sergeant asked me if this was my car, I said it was, he then asked me to say the registration number. As I was only half awake I looked at the plate to read it but there was a cop deliberately blocking my view of it so I had to recall the number which I stated. The cop then moved out of the way and I only then realised that the plates had been switched.

My car had been parked in a spot where I was going to approach it from the side so I hadn't noticed that the plates had been switched, they probably took this into account when they decided which car to target for the switch.

Report the missing plate to the Gardaí. If someone finds it and sticks onto a different car at least you'll have some proof that it wasn't you.

The broken plate was on the ground beside the car, but thanks. The motor factors made me a new plate, but wouldnt drill it. The nice man in MF Rathgar told me to go to a garage, if I could find one open. Charming man.
