paint on ceiling stain

I would like to know if I am right to think, that I can paint a wet patch stain on my ceiling from a leak,with an oil based paint...BUT is that gloss,eggshell,satin wood,liquid gloss or what....and do i then paint over that and the rest of the ceiling with ceiling paint....Thanks in advance for any advice..:)

u should use primer called b-i-n 123 made by zinsser, in the red can. its alcohol based paind that dry in 15 min, when primer is dry just overpaint whole ceiling with 2 coats of water based emulsion.
