The girlfriend has a 2010 Ford Fiesta and was told by the dealer when buying it that she shouldnt jump start other cars from it as it would disrupt the circuit in the car, has anyone heard of this before and/or know how it would effect the car if this was done.

Dont do it, a work mate damaged his 1 month old Avensis by jump starting another car. His car was misfiring afterwards. Voltage spikes from the other car as far as I know. If you are stuck and really have to do it then make sure your ignition is switched off.

+1 modern car electronics are a **** and are very sensitive, so don't chance it.

Agree on the risk to the electronics, another reason not to do it is that as a relatively small car you would probably wreck the battery if you tried to jump start a bigger car, especially a 6 or 8 cylinder model. Cars are fitted with batteries that match the expected workload, including the load required to start the engine. If you use the battery in a small car to start the engine in a much bigger car you'll probably cause it serious stress which will shorten it's life if not kill it altogether.
