Unable to find any info online.

I know post offices aren't reopening until Thursday, but what about the banks?

    I don't think they re-open 'til the 30th.

Only saying that because all my standing orders are pending the 30th, usually they go out the 24th.

Checked BOI's website, what a joke they don't have the opening times over the holidays...

Anyway, tomorrow is a normal workday, so I'd be surprised if they weren't open for business... or maybe not

They weren't because Xmas and Stephens day fell on a weekend, therefore the days are taken in lieu on the Monday and Tuesday

    From citizensinformation

Public holidays falling on a weekend

Where a public holiday falls on a weekend, you do not have any automatic legal entitlement to have the next working day off work. This occurs in 2010 when Christmas Day (25 December) falls on a Saturday and St Stephen's Day (26 December) falls on a Sunday. It also occurs in 2011 when New Year's Day (1 January) falls on a Saturday. This means that Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December 2010, and Monday 3 January 2011 are not public holidays.

    They are not open tomorrow.

The banks are closed out of choice not because of obligation. Saturday and Sunday were the public holidays.

Banks are not open tomorrow, however some of there telephone operations may be open. Why people go into banks anymore besides to lodge money are for currency exchange is beyond me.

How many friggin threads do we need about this every year? (And the same misinformation is always bandied about in them)

All banks are re-opening on Thursday, and will be closed again on Monday the 3rd.

Bank Holidays and public holidays are NOT the same thing. People may use the term interchangeably, but that does not change the fact that they are different. This year, the 27th, 28th and 29th were bank holidays, despite not being public holidays.

This is the same story as every other year. Xmas bank holidays are always 3 days starting on the 25th and another one on new year's day. Where any of these days fall on a weekend, they are carried over.

To see the bank holidays this year (and the next 2 years), please see here

If these threads pop up every year, surely it wouldn't be too much trouble for the banks to put up a single line of text on their website stating: we are reopening on 30/12/2010.

I notice not one of the main 3 banks have any info about their Xmas opening hours anywhere on their website. The post-Xmas sales are one of the busiest times for retailers in the calendar year and the public have no access to cash because the banks are closed. Only in Ireland...

Because BANK holidays are NOT PUBLIC holidays.

Firstly, most people who deal with banks do know. This was pretty much common knowledge. I guess a whole generation have grown up now that don't possess this basic knowledge. It's up there with changing a light bulb, wiring a plug etc.

Secondly, banks allow customers carry out 99% of their transactions 24/7 via ATM's, telephone banking, online banking etc. Now, if all those systems were down during the holidays I would understand people's complaints, but I cannot fathom the whole "customers have no access to cash".

Thirdly, many businesses go by the bank holidays. Pretty much the only exception are the publican, catering and retail businesses. Shops etc are supposed to be closed for a few days over xmas (in that they traditionally were). They choose to open, and that's ok, but you can't expect the entire country to change just to suit a few people who would prefer to ruin the family holiday that is xmas in the hope of taking a few bucks off their competitors (especially when their competitors do likewise, so nobody wins, but people working in retail who have families lose). You may not notice, but civil service, an post, semi states, and many professionals are closed for the bank holidays.

Fourthly, the information is available online. I provided a link in my post to IPSO, which should be the first port of call for such information. I have managed to find both AIB's and PTSB's information in a matter of seconds on their respective websites. Also, seeing as people here seem to love going into branches, notices would be up in all the branches detailing their opening hours over xmas.

Finally, this is not "only in ireland:rolleyes:".

TSB made it clear to their customers with one page set up for the Christmas opening hours:

    https://www.permanenttsb.ie/aboutus/contactus/christmasopeninghours/

I do however think banks close too much.

They also have crap opening hours and are short staffed at the worst times, usually Lunch Time when it's the only time when some people can get to a bank.
