Got apple tv for Christmas but would love to watch americian tv shows but there is no option to do this unless I have a us credit card or us iTunes voucher.

Has anyone jailbroke the apple tv 2? What are the advantages?

Will I be able to watch american tv shows?

    Thanks all.

    apparently you can do this:

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/New-Apple-iTunes-25-Music-Gift-Card-US-Worldwide-/280605763662?pt=Other_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item415568284e

It would appear the restrictions only apply to credit card use.

    I'm looking into this too.

Would like to jailbreak the iPad so it can play other Amazon video on demand and other such features that are available in the Roku tv box. Not sure if this is even possible with a jailbreak but I'd like it to happen.

Huh? I got one for Xmas from my wife (I specifically asked for it) and I love it. I already have all my DVDs ripped to m4v, all my music in iTunes and all my photos in iPhoto, so as soon as I plugged it into my TV, I was all set. Remote App and AirPlay with an iOS device works brilliantly.

The only thng I wish it had was RTE Player, but since I have it on my PS3 ( and I can see how bad it is there performance wise) it's no real loss.

It might not suit everyone, but to dismiss it so out of hand because it doesn't suit you is a little closed minded.

Absolutely love my Apple TV - I use it for about 90% of my TV & movies these days.

Not really worth jailbreaking the current model, it's not quite "there yet." Best to wait a year and see what happens.

Official apps will come soon. If not this year then next.

..Following on from this, I checked it out this morning and success.

The problem that I am finding is the current version Apple TV (119 quid) which seems to be for renting. I think the older version (about 250 quid) would be the one to opt for.

It's harldly becoming a slave to apple codecs fella. If we choose to use something that's our prerogative. Apple tv is one of the most outstanding products that I've ever purchased. It's a complete media solution in a box. Think you need to stop hating and start using. Or else stop dissing people for making a decision to purchase a serious piece of kit.

Well said - the biggest problem with people who don't own any Apple products is the fact that they (in most cases) haven't used Apple products. They're just universally good products.

I got my mother an iPad up north when they came out there. Best thing for anyone who's mother constantly needs computer help. It does a few key things really really well. Perfect for her.

Funny thing is, she now consumes all her content digitally. All through iTunes. And now she can throw those and YouTube etc to the Apple tv. The absolute last thing she wants to know about is different video formats. This is simple to understand and just works!

Netflix, the leading global Internet film subscription service, today announced it will expand to the United Kingdom and Ireland in early 2012, offering unlimited TV shows and films streaming instantly over the Internet to TVs and computers for one low monthly subscription price.
Upon launch, Netflix members from the UK and Ireland will be able to instantly watch a wide array of TV shows and films right on their TVs via a range of consumer electronics devices capable of streaming from Netflix, as well as on PCs, Macs and mobile tablets and phones. Further details about the service, including pricing, content and supported devices, will be announced closer to launch.
Netflix has been streaming to U.S. members since 2007, adding Canada in 2010 and 43 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean in September 2011. Netflix has revolutionised entertainment across the Americas by giving its members a huge selection of films and TV shows to enjoy when and where they want.
People interested in becoming members of Netflix in the UK or Ireland can go to www.netflix.com to sign up to receive an email alert letting them know when Netflix has launched in their country.
