"An Iranian travel agency is offering foreign-bound Iranian passengers with the opportunity to purchase train tickets in Iran before travelling to their target destinations.

Aras Travel Agency has enlisted 26 countries, including Belgium, Slovenia, Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Norway, Canada, South Korea, Switzerland, Turkey, and Portugal.

“Traveling by train provides better opportunities for the passengers to visit the formerly unknown and remote locations. They will also get a chance to become familiar with local cultures and customs of people in those regions,” he added.

Travel experts believe that although travelling by air is much faster than using trains, in many cases air travelers are unable to observe tourist sites and can only see cities where their planes land".

This is good for Iran a country that has been so isolated from the rest of the world. I wonder why they have not included Iarnrod Eireann on their list?

One would have thought so considering it was Iarnrod Eireann that was the official railway was used in promoting Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the recent Iranian presidential election. :p

Because they've no reason to give a shit about an island with a population of about 6 million?

EDIT: I also don't see the UK on that partial list.

Apparently its a great country to visit (once youre not Israeli or American). Good to see a bit of transcontinental cooperation anyway.
