New business idea where I would be running a specific type of sporting event.
I would be providing the equipment.
Target market is corporate, schools, private and public open events.

Would this type of business be subject to VAT and at what rate?

It depends how much you are going to sell. If this is a regular think and you are going to sell more than 37.5k worth of services over the year than you have to register. Sounds like your renting equipment which I think is 13.5% although always confirm with revenue.
