How much should a service cost for a small car? I don't live in Dublin.

    Thanks

vw polo around 100 euro is a fair price id pay no more, I service my own car(1.4 astra) and all the parts, plugs, oil filter, air filter, 10/w40 oil cost me 45 euro, dont forget mechanics buy in bulk and cheapest of the cheap, I reccon they would get all this for about 30 euro, they charge labour costs of 40 an hour, although if people knew how easy it is to service their cars they would be so p.i.ssed off paying 55 euro for the work, it usally takes me 20mins to do a full service on my car so trust me ask the mechanic beforehand how much he will charge and if any more than 100 tell him to stick it where the sun dont shine :-)

It's great to do it yourself if you know what your doing. However, I don't so I'll leave it to the experts.

It all depends on what needs doing, there's no such thing as a 'standard' service. Have a look in the service book, find out what service it needs (there'll probably be a 10k mile service, a 30k mile, a 60k mile etc) and shop around for the best price for that work.

As above, people assume a 'service' is the whole job.

A service is, depending on manufacturer/mileage etc, is a change of oil, oil filter, plugs and air filter as well as a full vehicle inspection and for small engined standard cars generally costs in the region of €100-€140

However with modern cars you could be looking a specific types of oil, platinum/iridium plugs, long life air filters etc etc , also, is it due a brake fluid change, does it need brake pads/disks, is it due a timing belt(if fitted).....
