Range Rover EAS

    Hi,
    I have a 1996 Range Rover P38 2.5 dse.
I've been having trouble with my air suspension, as i only both the jeep as a bit of a run around I wasnt to concered about the EAS which was not working
when I got it. It had to manually inflated via and device under the hood using an external air compressor. Each Spring has its own valve where air can be inserted.
First of all, what pressure should the springs be inflated too?

My next problem is trying to get the Fault cleared from the EAS computer. I cant manage to erase it, even though I can read all the faults etc from my laptop using software/ wire I got on eBay. No matter how many times I click Unlock EAS, the fault never disapears...

Does anyone have any advice for me to fixs this problem, the lack of adjustable suspension is starting to cause issue, also when there is say 3 people or tools in the back the ride can get rough as the suspension lowers due to the weight but does not rise as the compressor does not run.

    Thanks,
    Peter

Is your compressor knackered or is it a fuse gone? A replacement compressor isn't that dear, expensive fix if it's the valve block though I believe. Did it have a leaking airbag, if ignored that will burn out the compressor.

I don't know pressures, you'd need to ask on somewhere like http://www.landroveraddict.com/smf/index.php?board=10.0

You need something like an EAS Kicker or Hawkeye to mess with the settings, you won't do more than read faults with a generic OBDII cable and software. It will also keep registering the fault unless you fix it.

If you don't want to shell out for a compressor etc, you could replace all the airbags and shocks with a coil conversion kit for around €300 http://www.paddockspares.com/sp/cat/RANGE_ROVER_P38/sub/Suspension/sid/571/sb2/3++Miscellaneous.html

Pressure in the air bags vary depending on ride hieght and load , just pumping them up with a compressor is a get home fix
They are a very easy system to fix and rebiuld parts can be got for the compressor and valve block ,etc
If its a hard fault , ie compressor not running then you wont be able to clear the error message and reset the system until it is fixed
    Whats your location ?

    Thanks,
Well If I jump the relay so to speak under the bonnet the compressor does run, however it will never run under its own accord.

The suspension now never comes out of Hard fault mode, even though I do have an EAS kicker.
There is a leak however that should not stop the compressor from running. I know its not the compressor however as I have two. Both run the same.

It's really annoying. Really dont know what to do, dont think its a fuse.
I would change to springs but you lose alot of advantages which the air suspension has so I would rather not to go down that route.

Yes, I'm trying to locate the problem. However its very hard to find out what it is, I suspect i have a fault EAS Computer.

Thats why it wont go out of hard fault, or possibly something has become disconnected and each time it erases the fault it comes back straingt away.

    I'm located in Sligo.

I know nothing of the systems on these but if the compressor runs when you remove the relay and bridge it then there is a few issues it may be.

I assume the compressor is activated when the vehicle drops below a set height. On trucks this is normally operated by a small lever that is directly connected to a height sensor valve. It could be a broken wire between these sensors and the EAS ECU, could be a faulty ECU. Trucks sometimes need to have the AS calibrated

Check the engine bay fuse box as they give a lot of trouble and wierd faults
A lot of the time by simpley removing it and cleaning all the connections on the underside can eliminate problems , have also have them burn out the pcb board , that also can be repaired by soldering wires in place of the burnt tracks
The fuse box can be stripped easy enough ,unplug it from the car , take pics of relay and fuse location , then take it apart , clean it all up along with the plugs in the car
Sounds like either a dead ecu or one of the power supplies missing from the fuse box
Most of the problems have come across on P38 electrical faults have looked like major component failure but have turned out to be broken wires , normally in the drivers foot well to the becm
