Welcome baby boy on Christmas Day

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1342092/Elton-John-David-Furnish-welcome-son-Zachary-help-surrogate-mother.html
Elton John and his civil partner David Furnish have announced they are proud parents to a healthy baby boy.
Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and was 22 inches long at birth.
He was born via a surrogate mother in California on Christmas Day.
'We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment,' Sir Elton and Furnish said in a joint statement.

Proud parents: Sir Elton John and David Furnish seen shopping in Beverly Hills last week. They are now parents to a healthy baby boy
'Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents.'
The couple made their surprise announcement to U.S. magazine Us, saying that out of respect for the surrogate mother's privacy they would not be disclosing any further information

Feeling broody: Elton with a child at a Ukrainian orphanage last year; his attempts to adopt the boy failed
Sir Elton, 62, married Furnish, 48, in 2005 after 12 years together.
Zachary is a first child for both.
His middle name Levon is the title of a song from Sir Elton's 1971 album Madman Across The Water.
While the surrogacy came as a surprise to fans of the couple, the pair have previously made their wish to become fathers known.
They first attempted to adopt an HIV positive child from the Ukraine last year, but were rejected because of Sir Elton's age and the fact that the country did not recognise civil marriages.
Sir Elton then made a commitment to support the boy and his brother financially.
He said after the failed adoption bid: 'David always wanted to adopt a child and I always said no because I am 62 and I think because of the travelling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldn't be fair for the child.
'But having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him. I don't know how we do that but he has stolen my heart.'
And in a further indicator that he was ready to finally settle down to fatherhood, Sir Elton announced his retirement from the music business last month, claiming he was too old to compete with the likes of Lady Gaga.

Wait until the people on 'what is the gayest sport read' read that? What jokes they will make about 'gay' babies. They will have such fun.

If they cannot handle (sorry that might scare them) contact sports without making the gay remarks.............well this would be way too big for them to understand.

    Let's see-they might read it

an obscene parody of human life

Is it really a parody? We will have to wait and see. Do you know many gay parents? I know plenty and their kids are doing fine. I know gay foster parents who do a wonderful job.

They're not disclosing out of respect for the mother. But I'm guessing Davids! That or they went the whole hog and got a sperm donor also.

Great to see if you have enough money you can buy children, the Ukrainian government had there reason's why they wouldst let their adoption go ahead, age, martial status, lifestyle of parents, but that doesn't stop celebrities with money.

Elton sure will be able to teach his son how to throw tantrums if nothing else.

The sexuality of the parents isn't relevant in my opinion, but Elton's a bit long in the tooth for fatherhood, and his chum's not far behind. They could both be dead by the time the kid's 20.

Two loving parents are all that matter, it doesn't matter if they're a heterosexual coupe or a homosexual couple.

Elton retired from the music business last month specifically so he could concentrate on the birth of his child.

Look at David Jason, wasn't he 65 when he became a father, naturally?

This poor child will never have a normal life. Elton John and his 'partner' as loving parents is totally irrelevant and a passing fancy in their superficial lives. After five minutes (or so) they will devolve responsibility for this poor baby to a nanny who (at best) will be interested in earning a quick buck from her/his 'Elton John baby diaries' in a year's time.

The announcement of the birth as a headline in the main news is typical of the 'superficial' nature of today's lifestyle. While a distraction from the hum drum lives that we live, it demonstrates the depths to which we have as a society have sunk.

    Nothing to add but that.

He could have done it before he was hitting his mid 60's though (this applies to all parents be they famous or not, gay or straight)

    Myers today!
So, if a heterosexual man wants to rent a woman's vagina in order to put semen into it for his enjoyment, he goes to jail, and the feminists cheer. But if a homosexual male wants to buy that same vagina to put semen into it to produce a baby for his enjoyment, then he is a good person, and is acclaimed a feminist hero. In other words, the vagina is for reproduction, not pleasure. What a very Catholic way of looking at sex.

Kevin Myers: Buying a birth cert doesn't make Elton a parent

    By Kevin Myers

    Wednesday January 05 2011

The "news" that Elton John and the man we are now expected to call his husband, David Furnish, were joint fathers of a little boy, broke when I was already in the DTs.

So I assumed it was a purely personal hallucination, a smaller version of that more regular detox yuletide nightmare, the one in which I'm having sex with Ayatollah Khoumeini and Woody Allen. These things pass, once the final molecule of turkey is washed out of the system.

But since I tend to keep newspapers, and the de-turkification is now complete, here it is, before me now, in this newspaper of December 29, via 'The Daily Telegraph' service, from writers Nick Allen and Laura Roberts. "Elton John has become a parent after he and his partner David Furnish fathered a child through a surrogate mother."

The joint statement from the two men declared: "We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this moment. Zachary is healthy and doing well and we are very proud and happy parents."

They were not alone in their triumph: somewhere or other, there is the mother, who was paid a fee for the use of her body, and there is the Californian agency which arranges these things, and allegedly charges about $150,000 (for something that used to happen for free at the back of the UCD bike sheds).

Later, the story reported: "British law changed in April when it became legal for two men to have a child by a surrogate and for both men's names to appear on the birth certificate."

Now sometimes -- no, an awful lot of the time -- I get the feeling that the real job of the news is to test the right-on credentials of columnists. Agree that two homosexual men are of course equal co-fathers of a child and you may continue to be a columnist still. But disrespect the very notion of co-fatherhood, and you've failed the test: you will accordingly be kicked to death by a gang of gay lesbian feminist hunt-sab Greenpeace vegan Shell-to-Sea commandos wearing eco-friendly low-carbon-footprint bovver boots.

So, once more into the valley of death. . . Let's deal with 'facts'. The report ran: "Elton John has become a parent" -- even though the sperm-donor was in fact his partner David Furnish. But the same report also declared that both men had "fathered" the child, when we all know only one did. So: what do the words "parent" and "father" mean any more? Moreover, when we read that the entire affair cost €150,000, does the word "dollar" have the same negotiable meaning as the words "parent" and "father"?

Well, actually no, because the US Treasury has rules about the meaning of dollar: it protects the value of the currency as being vital for the state of the US economy. There is of course no longer anyone who will protect the meaning of words like "father", "mother", "parent", "family" or even "birth certificate". In this new moral order, unlike the world of finance, nothing is quite ever what it says on the tin. A birth certificate is now an ideological declaration, not a documentary fact.

What we do know is this: at this late stage in his life, Elton John has started acquiring human beings; well, it used to be flowers -- he bought £300,000 worth in over a year. And cars -- he once sold 20 in a single sale, because, he said, he never got to drive them. And antiques: in a single sale he unloaded 400 he no longer had any use for. Next up, a baby.

Now I can't stop Elton John hiring a uterus and using it to create his next collection, whatever that may be -- a small congregation say: a womb with a pew. However, the Irish Council for the Status of Women has just declared it should be a criminal offence for a man to buy sexual favours from a woman. We may take it, of course, that the law is not intended to be applied to gay men looking for a surrogate mother.

So let me conclude by triumphantly failing the right-on test. Elton John is, irrefutably, not a biological father, and not in any sense a parent. For I still know what the word "parent" means. It is not a genetic function, but a nurturing one. It is not created by a certificate, but only by loving care. Any whore, any wastrel, can mother or father a child: only a person who loves and minds that child can become a parent, regardless of their DNA. Elton John -- or Reginald Dwight, as his own parents called him -- might one day be a parent, and even an excellent one. Time will tell, not the new liberal media ideology.
