Deutsche Bahn raises Arriva Trains Wales fares by 10%

This is for people that think having DBAG take over IE would be a boon to the Irish railway system. Quite the opposite, it looks like; they want to bleed Arriva dry by taking whatever profits they make and re-investing them in Germany's train system. (So while they institute this massive fare hike, DBAG institutes a fare freeze on long-distance services and raises their regional rail fares by a comparatively paltry 1.9%.) BTW, all this privatisation has meant that it now costs three times more to run the trains than under British Rail...

This is odd compared to their pricing on Chiltern, which is significantly cheaper than Virgin for the same ultimate trip (different route and terminal stations, though) from Birmingham to London and is generally pretty reasonable.

I travelled extensively in the UK during BR times. Believe me things are a lot better for passengers now.

Chiltern is quite a bit slower than Virgin though, and uses more out-of-the way terminuses, so you'd expect it to be cheaper.
