Frozen pipe burst leaking through ceiling - cost?

Tonight after the big thaw, what seems to be a pipe coming from the bathroom has burst and torn through the downstair ceiling and is flooding the room underneath.

I don't have any experience with things like this, I'm 21 and living alone. Any ideas how much this'll cost to repair? I have house insurance with FBD, so I'm hoping that will cover it somewhat. I'm going to call a plumber in the morning to see what is to be done.

With my situation and the current economic ****heap, I'm totally terrified about the repair costs.

FBD should have a helpline that you could call for advice. Presuming you turned off the water coming into your property. Most policies cover burst pipes provided that you took the necessary precautions. Check your policy especially the small print.

Main thing is not to panic, these things get sorted eventually. A friend of mine suffered a burst pipe but caught it on time. She called a plumber and he did the repair job and wasn't robbed in the process. Good luck.

Call a local loss adjuster before you contact your insurance company to inspect the damage they will represent you and your claim and get the best possible outcome for you. The total outlay should be covered as long as the damage was done by freezing and your policy states that it covers water damage due to freezing.

The plumbers just left there. He said he wont be able to do anything until Friday. He thinks it's the cistern in the hot press that is causing the leak.

FBD offices don't open until tomorrow so I'll have to wait until the morning to contact them.

I agree with the loss adjuster idea, they will take care of all the liaising with the insurance company and their fee will be included in the costs they put in for. They will price all the repairs including redecorating etc...

You are generally about 20% better off going to them than dealing directly.
