Short rapid ticking noise

    Hi all,

I have a 04 Fiesta LX. Just bought it 3 months ago. When I switch off the engine there is a rapid ticking noise coming from the general area of the central air vents, above the radio. It last for about 5 or 6 seconds then stops. The ticking is evenly spaced out and the same pitch.

    Anyone had a similar issue?

    Conor

    Heater matrix cooling down maybe?

Its likely the mechanism which controls the air direction to the different vents(window/centre/feet etc) On most cars with electronic control for this it returns to a set position when the car is switched off. Sometimes a worn cog can cause this noise as it doesn't engage properly. Chances are if you listen carefully you will hear the same noise when the car is switched on if you adjust the airflow to the different vents.

Noticed the same thing in my sister's car (04 Fiesta too), she said it was the CD player, must take another look . . .

I thought the noise was something to do with the heating system for the air vents. The weather is better now so I haven't been heating the car or using the fan. The noise isn't as frequent but is still there occassionally.

Thinking of getting a service anyway, so might see what a garage thinks.

I'd say it's the catalytic converter/exhaust system contracting as it cools.

Solved the mystery of the ticking noise. It was the CD player. I had a data cd and the device couldn't read the media. I just took out the CD and the noise is gone.

Sound can be funny like that - still, it looks like it wasn't the cat/exhaust this time!
