potterton gas boiler

Hi I have a potterton boiler (gas) and newlec control panel. I've had no water for almost a week and the heating is working intermittently. Some days it will come on, others (like today) it wont. all in all it worked for 3 days with no water then no heat for two, then worked again for one and now none for two days. Any ideas why?
I know my newlec control panel is a bit dodgy as before the freeze for the last few months there was a long delay when I turned the heat on to the boiler actually kicking in and heat coming on. Of course i never got it fixed, it was on the list! Are the two things related does anyone know or is my intermittent heating just down to the water being off?

Dont know much about the newlec panel but most heating systems are sealed these days so water off will not effect its performance...

Also most boilers need a min off 0.2 bar to ignite. If your boiler is igniting its getting this pressure meaning water off is not effecting it.

    Just to let you know...

thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention that the boiler does ignite when I switch both water and heat on, but if just the heat it takes usually about half an hour for the boiler to ignite and heat to come on. If I start both even with the boiler ignited the heat does not come on for at least half an hour. and in the last few days not at all (water will heat though) Sorry if this post is confusing!

Have you checked your zone valve. There is a temp override on this you can override it to leave it permantly open. This will tell you if its the valve.

how do i check the valve zone?

There is a valve in your hot press prob. It has a plastic top. Like a box sitting on the pipe. Its usually the zone valve. Sometimes there is 2. One for upstairs and one for Downstairs. I am guessing you only have one as you heating would be on in one part of the house.

On the side of the lever there is a button or lever. Push this to switch to manual..
