Can you get Percocet in Ireland?

I'm having issues with root canals and due to get one done in mid January - will most likely need another one done also. Both molars, both above each other. Have been taking Ponstan (three 500mg ablets 3 times a day) for over a week now - they worked fine at first but not so well now. Today I eneded up taking 6 within 12 hours. I also have TMJ - diagnosed by a dentst a few weeks ago but told as a med card patient I'd be on a waiting list to see a specialist for 12 to 18 months. Typical Ireland.

Anyway, I'm planning to go backto my doc in the New Year or before if possible and asking for something stronger than Ponstan - someone mentioned Percocet to me but not sure whether it's available here? Percocet is an oxycodone/acetaminophen blend. If it's not available here, wonder what would be just as good? Thanks.

Oxycodone is available in Ireland, as is acetamiphone (better known as paracetamol).

In terms of your painkiller regimen, thtmats best discussed with your doctor.

I phoned a doctor and was told that Percocet is codene based and he wouldn't advise anyone to take codene (codine?) based drugs as they are highly addictive? True or not I don't know that's simply what he said. He said I could supplement the Ponstan with say regular paracetamol. That's fine but really after popping 6 500g Ponstan ya shouldn't have to supplement it with anything. He said some docs may prescribe Percocet but he wouldn't. Wonder if there's medicinal ganja? :D I don't smoke da reefa...............cha!

Hope this isn't perceived as giving medical advice, but the MAXIMUM daily dose of mefenamic acid, the drug in Ponstan is 1.5g - in 24hrs.

I took 6 500g tablets yesterday and two paracetamol. Didn't take any today, not yet anyway. Pain ebbs and flows - isn't constant. If need be I'll take a few paracetamol but will try to hold off taking any more Ponstan today - yesterday was enough for a 2 day dose - don't wanna stress my liver or whatever. Will start using them normally again tomorrow, one 500mg 3 times a day.

Ok marti8 you really need to see a doctor about this. Alternatively you could go to your local pharmacy and get some advice there.

There are rules on here against giving out medical advice.

There are better ways to take the current medications that you have.

You should see your doctor/dentist about it ASAP as suggested above.

Nobody has given any medical advice. All I was really wondering was whether Percocet was available in Ireland. I've found out that it is but according to the doc I spoke but that doc wouldn't prescribe it, having said that he isn't my GP - he works for South Doc - but knowing my own GP she wouldn't probably prescibe it either. Thanks.

The doc I soke to last night said I can supplement Ponstan with paracetamol or other over the counter painkillers. Will be going to my own doc within a few days anyway to discuss a bloody myriad of issues. Thanks.

Marti8 I appreciate where you are coming from but its impossible to properly answer your questions without 'giving medical advice'. As Vorsprung said there are better ways to take the meds you are on already....but the rules forbid us from telling you that here. Which is why I'm saying - go talk to your doctor. Actually if you go talk to your(/a/any) pharmacist they can probably advise you as well how to better use what you are already taking (also - its free!!!!)
