Repair or sell it on. No sense in scrapping it!

Find out what's wrong with it first though.

    Dont scrap it.

The cost of repair would likely run to more then the car would be worth at the moment as ford galaxy/vw sharon/seat alhambra's have a very low value especially with such a large petrol engine.

I would advise, however getting a second opinion to be sure it is the headgasket that has failed. whats the symptoms?

Obviously another option, depending on your finances or course, would be to trade it in on the scrappage scheme, the headgasket being gone wouldn't effect its trade value that way...

Do you need such a big bus ?? Is there much tax on it ? If no tax or only a month or two and you don't need a car that size (ie all those seats) I'd scrap it and buy a thing for a grand no bigger than 2.0, factor in the saving in motor tax and the new thing would cost about €600 if it needs nothing doing.

I'd bring it to a mechanic, find out exactly what is wrong with it and how much it will cost to fix. Then make your decision based on that.

Its listed as a full days labour to remove and install the head, add to this pressure testing and skimming the head, plus all parts for re assembly(new head bolts and gasket set) and your well on your way to the biggest part of €750 to have it done correctly! Thats not including the possible requirement of flushing the whole cooling system and possibly replacing other parts like water pump, thermostat etc
