learning to play violin

I have played the piano for a number of years now and recently completed a diploma in performance. I'm thinking now of possibly taking up a new instrument, probably the violin. Can anyone recommend a decent one to start with that wouldn't burn an enormous hole in my wallet?

If you take up the violin, you have the choice of classical, traditional, or whatever. It all depends on where you see yourself going and what you would like out of playing the violin.

This is a fine instrument to start with, and not crazy money :

Ideally, money no object you'd want an all flamed maple tone wood model, and the back should be made from one piece not split down the middle - but as starter instruments go, you couldn't do better than this.
