I thought we could start a thread where people give their opinions on what eye-liner/mascara they think is the best on the market and compare prices/etc.. I think Miss Sporty eye-liner is brill, works great for me and it's quite cheap too :)

Apologies if a thread similar to this already exists

    Eyeliner: mac fluidline in blacktrack
    mascara: diorshow by Dior

I have tried may high and low end brands and those work best for me.

I like Lancome mascara and Gosh eyeliner, but in a rush I had to buy Claire's Accessories eyeliner and its actually ok! :)

Still have to get the hang of liquid eyeliner though, I've never had the patience for it...:o

As D e e said Diorshow by Dior, It's the best I've tried.

I got the Diorshow Extase there a few weeks ago and it is brilliant. I think it's my favourite of the Dior mascaras (have tried Blackout and Diorshow).

+1 for MAC fluidline, it's brilliant. I've also been using Bourjois Clubbing Liner in black and it's really good and easy to use.

Eyeliner: Boots No7 Amazing Eyes Pencil. Love it! And can often get it for very cheap because of boots vouchers. Also Mac fluidline for night-time. Would never wear it during the day...would look ridiculous.

Mascara: Max Factor False Lash Effect. Not to expensive too! And Diorshow Blackout.

I like clique eyeliner. I find it much easier to apply than most.

Mascara: L'oreal Collagen boost is the best mascara I've ever used. It seriously makes it look like I'm wearing false lashes. It's incredible. I prefer Lancome for a day time look though.

My favourite eyeliner for my waterline is one I got free in a double pack of the above mascara on a ryanair flight. It's amazing, not too soft but still a little creamy, not hard, doesn't pull at the skin, or transfer on to my lids when my eyes are open. It's also the blackest black colour. I love it!

For lining my top lid is Urban Decay Ink for eyes.

    urban-decay-ink-for-eyes-black-zero.jpg

It's a cream liner which I wouldn't normally be too keen on but its really lovely. You can get a very clean, straight line easily. The brush it comes with isn't great, I don't really find it stiff enough. However it's double ended and the other end is a little smudger thing (how precisely described, I know :pac:) which is perfect for blurring the line and making the look that little bit smokier.

+1 I used to have very sensitive eyes that would react to cheapy makeup, I love this too. :)

I also love Urban decay 24/7 glide on pencil in black.

Mascara: volume glamour ultra care mascara by borjouis, again for my eyes in case they react (I've had no problems with this yet!!) I've been asked several times am I wearing falsies :) , I also liked no7 sensitive eyes but did nothing for my lashes.

MaxFactor False Lash Effect Mascara or YSL Faux Cils Noir Radical

and as far as eyeliner goes I'll like L'Oreal Carbon Black

Eyeliner: For kohl, my favourite thus far is MAC (though I have been known to be unfaithful, I've always come back). For the "liquid" look, I've failed to master the MAC Fluidline yet, depsite best efforts. I love Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner for a similar effect with easier application, but my New Year's beauty resolution is to master the liquid line.

Mascara: I find Lancome Hypnose (the ordinary one, Drama etc. clumps) and Diorshow great. I'm always, always asked are my lashes real when I wear mascara, though, as my lashes are super long even when naked, so I don't really need excessive volume, just pigment. I'd love to have them tinted out of interest, as they're very fair without the black stuff. Anyone tint theirs?

I bought the Diorshow Blackout and found it a total waste of money. Did nothing and went everywhere as well. Prefer the Collagen one from L'Oreal.

For eyeliner, GOSH cannot be beaten, their Extreme Art liquid eyeliner is semi permanent and will not come off unless you remove it (Vaseline works best).

Oh really want to get this one, the brush looks fab

I generally use whatever eyeliner is at hand, I always put black eyeshadow over them so it stays perfectly

Mascara: The elastic one, I think its by Bourjois

Eyeliner: The essentials liquid one from penneys. Ive tried millions and its the best for doing the little flicks that I do.

I find the essence twisty eyeliners great. Plus, they're not pricey! XD

YSL Faux Cils mascara and Bobbi Brown- Long-wear Gel Eyeliner - Black Ink, cannot be beat imo!

I love Fluidline too, but was in Germany recently and picked up a Maybelline gel liner with a brush and it's great!! I only wish I'd bought more, but I've never finished a Fluidline (they always dry out before getting to the end :( ) so I'd say I'll be a while with the Maybelline!

Otherwise, when in a rush, I love the L'Oreal liquid liner in Carbon Black, the flicks always turn out great and it's so easy to use.

For pencil liners, I've gone through a few. Love the Bourjois Smokey Eyes one in Brown (black isn't quite as good); have a Revlon Colorstay one in Grey which is brilliant, and the black one I use is from GOSH. Have some Urban Decay ones which I got with the Naked and NYC palettes and I find they last about four seconds, so...pretty crap. Have a 'nude' one from Germany - a German brand called Manhattan if anyone is interested - and it's pretty good! Especially considering that peach eyeliner is hard enough to find (did find an Essence one but it wasn't up to much tbh).

Mascara...still haven't really found my perfect mascara. Using the L'Oreal Volume Million one and I like it; preferred Lash Architect but L'Oreal is pretty expensive for Boots stuff so I'll use what I have. Have never got on with Max Factor mascara - is the False Lash Effect really as good as everyone says? Or is it like Maybelline Great Lash - i.e. gets rave reviews all the time, me like a sucker (I love the packaging) buys one and rediscovers its crapness?

I'm currently loving Bourjois pencil liners and Maybelline liquid marker liner. They're really inexpensive, and have good lasting power! For mascara, I'm using an Urban Decay one at the moment but it was quite pricey so I'm not sure I'd repurchase purely for that fact. I hear Maybelline do great ones so I'm planning to try them next! Anyone tried Falsies? (Sorry if I'm repeating posts)

I highly recommend the Maybelline "marker" style liquid liner. So much easier than the brush types! Much more control.

I was very disappointed with falsies, I loved colossal volume so was very surprised that i had such a problem with this. It's the worst I can rememeber using

No 7 Exceptional Definitional is what I'm using at the mo. The new one No 7 Exquisite Curl is useless.

My fave mascara for the last few months is Volume Million lashes by Loreal. Really lengthens lashes, no issue for me with clumping.:D:D
    l-oreal-volume-million-lashes-mascara.jpg
I used to use Loreal Longitude mascara but hard enough to get now.

    item57714.jpg

as for eyeliner.. I only bother with it when Im going out, have only used Loreal, Rimmel and Urban Decay, all the pencil ones are more or less the same to me to be honest ;) Ive used the Rimmel liquid liner and thats pretty good :)

Yeah Maybelline was much cheaper there so I bought loads of stuff. The eyeliner was E8.95, and it comes with brush so it's good value, but I really hope they don't massively overcharge us here! Especially since there were other colours I really wanted but didn't get...silly me. They had brown, navy and purple also, so hopefully it all comes over here!

It is INCREDIBLE. I love big brushes! Its seriously so good, thick lashes without them clumping or drying. One coat is enough for day time use but three coats and it looks like you're wearing false lashes.

GRRR! Why have different Euro prices? Though I kind of suspected something like that might happen when I got Great Lash for 3.95...

Also, re: discussion on L'Oreal Extra Volume-Collagen - it is really good, especially when you take the time to do a few coats properly. You get massive, massive lashes! They didn't have an extra black when I got mine...does one exist now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭Dark Phoenix

For day I love my essence eye liner marker pen its a lovely dark brown colour it cost next to nothing so I am raging I didnt get a second one! For going out I use Mac's fluidline in black I got it in the US for a bargain price and really like it. Shu Umeras gel liner is great too.
Have seen loads in magazines about the rimmerl liquid eyeliner being amazing has anyone tried it?
The mascara I wear everyday is the revlon growluscious I swear my lashes are longer since using this (and they were pretty long already!). It goes on great, doesn't go everywhere, doesn't clump or smudge its grand on my sensitive eyes too. For night I wear this and also put on givenchy phenomeneyes on top

After reading this thread Im tempted to try the loreal collagen mascara - after all I figure you can never have too many mascaras :D

Question though - how long should you keep them before chucking them out? I have a few at home that I don't want to throw out but I think I might need to!

I'm the same liquid eyeliner's a bit of a pain. Love Gosh pencil tho. Goes on way better than others I've tried (and I've tried quite a few!)

The Exaggerate one? I absolutely love it! I find it very easy to control cos the brush is stiffer than other ones I've tried. Once it's on I dab black eyeshadow on top of it and it lasts all night! Definitely recommend!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭Dark Phoenix

thats the one I couldn't remember the name! I must give it a go it seems to get brilliant reviews thanks for that :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,660 ✭✭✭G86

The best eyeliner I've ever used is Smoulder by MAC, it's seriously class! Epic staying power.

Mascara wise, I'm using Rimmel Curved Brush Extra Super Lash at the mo, which is good - but Clinque have a brilliant one out too that actually makes it look like you're wearing extensions!

For mascara my all time favourite is big gal lashes by benefit. not sure how much it is cos I've yet to buy a full size. Was just using one in a set I got. It doesn't clump, applies really evenly and has a super thick brush so gives good volume. I got a maybelline one to tide me over till I have the money to go to benefit but regretting that I didn't just fork out!

For eyeliner, I love rimmels kohl pencil with the smudgy thing. I'm not sensitive to cheap stuff thankfully since I didn't find a difference between this and an expensive smashbox one I got, or for that matter clinique.
Can anyone recommend a good liquid liner for beginners? or is gel better? any tips on application?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 331 ✭✭abrr1000

I used bad gal by benefit and find that it gives you panda eyes very quickly.
The best waterproof and lasts day and night (and extremely hard to get off) is lancome. Expensive but definitely worth it.
The little MAC pots of eyeliner are best too - last so well. I need to buy more!

I really like Maybelline Mascara Falsies Black

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 473 ✭✭sunshine rose

Mascara wise at the moment I'm using Max Factor False Lash Effect or DiorShow Blackout. Both of them are really good but the I find that the Dior one can be a bit clumpy sometimes. Going to try that Falsies one next!^^^

For years I used an eye kohl by Max Factor but recently I got a sample size of Urban Decay's 24/7 glide-on eyeliner and it's fantastic, both on the waterline and lashline.
Edit: Forgot about MAC's fluidlines, brilliant for 'liquid' liner.

I like Rimmel's liquid eyeliner (the thinner brush one). It's very easy to use and you can make a line very thin at the end of a stroke.

For mascara, I love Max Factor Masterpiece mascara. It really lengthens my eyelashes but can look very natural for daytime wear, or look like I'm wearing fake eyelashes (my lashes are quite long). I love the brush because it combs out lashes perfectly, and the formula doesn't ever clump. It's never gone gloopy or flaky on me either. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 Jaygee

Badgal mascara from Benefit! I got this for christmas and i lovvee it :)
Also clinique naturally glossy mascara is very good also but doesn't last very long.
I love mac fluidline in blacktrack, I only ever use eyeliner on my top lids, Never do I use eyeliner on my bottom waterline as it doesnt look nice!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,174 ✭✭✭RhubarbCrumble

I like Maybelline lash stilleto or great lash mascara, though I find that Maybelline in general tends to dry out quickly :( A bit more expensive but definitely worth it is Diorshow.

Eyeliner, Rimmel or Essence do me fine, though Urban Decay have some fab colours.

I read that thats the only colour we're getting to start with. Where abouts did you find it? I'm gonna go get some straight after work tomorrow, i'm insanely excited :o:D

I recently got Diorshow and am so disappointed with it - its just doing nothing for me - clumpy and does not give length!

My fave mascara is Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume - I bought from ebay for about a fiver. Its similar to Max Factor False Lash effect.

I used to be mad into gel liners (mac fluidline and the inglot one is great) but have gone back to pencils for handiness - I like the Make Up Factory one as its just one of those twist up ones so no messing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭honerbright

Tried Boots on my lunch break today, and was told the Maybelline gel liner wasn't going to be there till the start of the next promo cycle :(

Anyway, I'm currently varying between two mascaras, Rimmel Lash Accelerator and No7 Exceptional Definition, both are looovely. However, I find the Rimmel one doesnt dry too fast, so it's not good for putting on before I go to work at 7 am because it tends to end up on my lids if I'm not careful.

As for eyeliners, I'm using No7 Amazing Eyes Pencil in black, its really nice and smooth and stays on all day, so no more looking like a panda coming out of work :D
