anybody here using an au northstar stainless mod ??
was looking at one for my .223
I was told they are shorter and lighter than the T8 and don't have the rusting problem

Just a tad tighter and you won't get that pinging sound from it. Mine is in .30 cal that I use on the 308 but I also use it on my 223 as well, that's why I got the threads on both barrels cut the same.

Cuts the noise down to acceptable levels on both rifles.

have one bought myself but it hasn't been delivered yet due to the bad weather, its wrecking my head, all this free time and my rifle is in a gunsmiths waiting for it to arrive to be threaded, i noticed you have your scope mounted high in the pic, is that done deliberately because of the mod, i have my scope only about 2-3mm from the barrel and i'm worried now that the mod might block my view through the scope a bit

No the scope is high 'cos I got medium mounts and should have got low mounts.

I now have picatinny rails and mounts on the way for that Sako 75 .308

if you imagine the scope is focusing on a piece of the target 100 metres away; then realise to do that; the scope actually is taking in only a small piece of target area off in the distance

thanks clive, i asked because i can see the sak on my .22 cz when in low mag on my nikko stirling 4-12 and it can be annoying and thats with the scope mounted high because of the iron sights in the way, and i have a 4-16 on my hornet so i presume at 4x it'll be noticeable again, i just hope it won't be too bad

Many years ago I had a 1.5-4 power scope, on 1.5x I could see the barrel.

saying that I had a 36x scope on a .22 and I could see the bullet in flight

i've got one on my tikka, and it really does the job well. i also noticed the ping noise like clivej was talking about when i first got it but like he said if you tighten it a bit, it'll go away.
as far as the rust issue, i don't have it that long, but i still spray a bit of wd40 into it every once in a while.
on a side note, has anyone that has one ever taken it apart to clean it. i tried twisting the two ends but had no joy. i didn't want to force it either because i didn't want to feck it up

If you want small and light and modular you should go for the Roedale mod.
I have one in Alloy/stainless and it is a very nice piece of machining.
    Fully strippable for cleaning.
Edit: There is one for sale in the for sale section.http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056115452&highlight=roedale
