WTF like! Went down to get the train to work, alas there isn't one until 9:00

What kind of a f***ing joke are Irish Rail, or is it the union to blame

No it's because today is a Bank Holiday.. all public transport modes as far as I am aware are running a Sunday service today (DB,BE,Luas and IR) and this has been flagged on their websites for the last fortnight

Today isn't a bank holiday though...

I know its not a public holiday, but it is deemed a bank holiday. Some services run a Saturday service, most run a sunday service, e.g Luas deem it to be a BH http://www.luas.ie/luas-christmas-and-new-year-schedule-2010.html

Also, just to note, Intercity trains at least are running on a normal weekday service with some curtailments the details of which are available both on the website or by phoning the station you are starting out from. They are not running a Sunday service.

As stated earlier Bus Eireann are running a Sunday service today.

Also of note, for the rest of this week (Tuesday-Friday) most Dublin area commuter routes are running Saturday services. That is for routes 103, 105, 107, 109, 111, 115, 120, 123, 124, 126 and 133.

Saturday 1, Sunday 2 and Monday 3 Jan 2011 are all operating to Sunday timetables with some alterations. Full details on www.buseireann.ie

Most employers will treat today and tomorrow as bank holidays with days off in lieu of the 25th & 26th falling on a weekend.
Public holidays falling on a weekend

Where a public holiday falls on a weekend, you do not have any automatic legal entitlement to have the next working day off work. This occurs in 2010 when Christmas Day (25 December) falls on a Saturday and St Stephen's Day (26 December) falls on a Sunday. It also occurs in 2011 when New Year's Day (1 January) falls on a Saturday. This means that Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December 2010, and Monday 3 January 2011 are not public holidays. When this happens you are entitled to the normal alternative arrangements concerning employment and public holidays that is:

    * A paid day off within a month of the public holiday
    * An additional day of annual leave
    * An additional day's pay
    * The nearest church holiday to the public holiday as a paid day off.

Your employer can require you to attend work on those days.

Today is in lieu of Christmas day (happens when bank/public holidays fall during the weekend)
Tomorrow is in lieu of Stephens day

It isn't the union that's to blame. It's your responsibility to check when your train is. Instead you showed up at the station assuming a train would show up too. I'd say it's no ones fault, but if you really need someone to blame, blame yourself.

Check the website now and then. It's usually pretty up to date.

Blame yourself for not bothering to check the updates which you could have done yesterday at least.
