USB Floppy Disk Drives

    Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted over on this side of boards :D

While formatting/reinstalling windows on a parents Dell Mini, I foolishly decided that it would be a good idea to update the bios while I was there. Good old Dell, the laptop froze the moment the flash program opened - I did not press "GO"/"OKAY/etc.
I left the thing on its own for a while to see if perhaps it was doing something in the background - no luck. I had to remove the power and the battery just to turn it off, so now I've bricked the thing :(

I have a few options I think, try to fix it, send it to dell, or give up on it - I did a bit of research online and it seems at some people have had some success recovering from the same situation using a USB Floppy Drive, but I can't be sure if this will work for me.

So fiiirst - any chance of a trusting boardsie in Dublin lending an external USB Floppy Drive to see if I can sort it out?

If not, then any tips of buying one? Online is probably the best idea pricewise, but if anyone knows of any reasonably priced ones in a brick and mortar store, it would be handy to just get it fixed and out of the way now!

    Thanks,
    Kaz

(ps bricking my mams laptop was a great christmas present I think)

Some internet cafes will have them, I presume you'll have to pay for your time though.

If you're looking to boot from something that will allow you to run the BIOS flashing program then you could try creating a boot CD using the instructions here

Thanks, I hadn't even thought of internet cafes! I'll check in the one near the house to see if they have one!

The machine is a mini 10, but I'll take a look at making a pendrive image or a boot cd....from what I understood from the other people who had the same problem though, it only ever recognised and reflashed from a USB FDD.

Still worth a shot though, not as if I can make it any more bricked :pac:
