I have a windows network where I share some files & folders on a few computers. Works no probs on laptop and macbook. I'm trying to work out how I can view these on my Android devices, HTC Desire and Zenithink Tablet.

Searching tells me to try either Astro or ES File Explorer I have them both but I'm not sure what setting to put in. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I know from an ipconfig that the ip of my main pc woth the shared files is 192.1681.1. - but its asking me for a username and password. I'm on XP Home and do not have a username/password set up. My xp rprofile name is "Myname" and my on the network the computer name shows up as "DESKTOP" but I have tried these (password blank) but nothing works. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I don't know about XP Home but here's some stuff to try.

1: Go into Control Panel and double click on user accounts.
2: Create a new user account. Give it a username & password.
3: Try Estrongs with that new account.

See if you get anywhere with that.

Try Gmote. You will find it in the market
I started to use it the other day and it allows you to browse folders and you can even control the PC with your phone.

Pretty sure that you'll need to have a password setup on the XP machine before it will let you access it via the network. Have just setup Astro with their SMB plugin on mine and was simple enough to connect to my external networked drives with it.

Could you give a quick rundown on what the settings are/mean? I have the SMB plugin but no idea how to set it up

Is that not the IP of your modem/router?

In EStrongs under LAN press the menu key > new and run a new scan, it will find any shared folders you have setup in XP.
