There is a water tank up on the roof feeding three flats. OFF this tank are numerious pipes running of to each flat. Instead of having to go through each pipe by turning it off to see which flat it goes into. Is it possible to attach a device on a pipe in one of flats going up to the tank and at the other end(roof top) have a receiver that would be placed on each pipe until it receives a signal. I know this can be done for the likes of network cables etc.

    Cheers

I cannot see how this "device" would be either less hassle or more effective than just switching off each valve in turn. You only need to do two and by elimination, you have the third! ;)

The problem is that in most cases there is more than one feed going to each apt, usually two(one feeding the HW cyclinder and one for cold taps). Also due to the nature of these being flats you very rarely get everyone in.

Not that I'm aware of tbh.... I know there are toners fro electrical, but not for water.

Don't think it's possible either. Water is a conductor and as soon as any electrical signal gets in contact with water and it'll transmit everywhere water is, so it'd be useless.
