Just to shake the frost off the brain and body I'm looking forward to a great 2011 on two wheels and thought I'd throw this thread up to rival the winter one.
Now that the shortest day has past I'm looking forward to Spring, my aims this spring and beyond are:

-Join Audax Ireland to support the nation wide club and get those long spins in, specific aim at least one two day 600km.
-Join a club (delayed due to work but will be good to go in late jan/early feb) and see what this brings with it.
    -Sportive the hell outa it
-Tour as much as possible around this fantastic country and abroad (tbc but looking at France)
    -keep mtbing over the summer
-I have my eye on doing the Tour de Munster-get off and stay off the bloody smokes:mad:

Cycled to work this morning for the first time in three months

Lack of showers combined with an injury has had me restricted to around six spins since November.

First day back and it's warm with no wind - everything (me and the showers) working aok.

    Nice

    :):):):):):):):)

Have been doing very little recently but hoping to start getting more miles in from next week on. Planning a nice trip to the Alps/Pyrenees in sept so plenty to train towards. :)

First decent bright morning this morning too.

So what will the first spring purchase be everyone?

PS does anyone know if there are any cycling events in next couple of weeks (aside from braywheelers which im aware of)

@ROK my name is in alright, thanks for the advice late last year, see you sat in clonmel?

I commuted as much as possible over the winter and pulled out the road bike last week for the first time since Oct, gotta say it took a few km's to get back to it:o
I had changed my saddle at the end of last year but didn't get around to trying it out until now.... its pretty stiff and unforgiving but its getting easier to handle after a few hours. Other than a few refresher spins I headed to lahinch the other day and got a fantastic spin in (Lahinch, doolin, Ballyvaughn, Lissdoonvarna, Doolin, Lahinch), hills, wind, floods, sand and dirt on the road made for a slow time but the weather was pure west coast spring so happy days.

Its great to have the winter behind us. So far this year I have bought.....
    • A nifty little bike stand from The Edge for €15, perfect for cleaning and light maintenance
    • Race blades, only fitted the rear one though, dont see the need for the front one
    • Degreaser
    • 3 pairs of cycle glasses from Aildi:) Not very Euro but they look good and at a €5 a pop its not gonna matter when my gf steals a pair or when I lose/forget/break them.

Spring ftw. You made me look at my total km's since November and I've clocked up a whopping 900 , so.........take that Mr Winter, in yo face :p.
I've recently added a saddle, a Prologo one that was half-price on CRC, niiiiice, it replaced the Bontrager R saddle (ouch), & I also got a tub of chamois cream, beautiful stuff, I'm now making chamois sandwiches :eek::D

Bould. Good man. won't be in clonmel on sat as I am in the midst of some complicated nonsense at present.
But hopefully catch you at some of the other rides.

This thread cheered me up. Principlally because I am a sucker for accessories. Spring and Autumn are great for accessories.

LS jerseys initially with rain cape that give way to SS and gilet.
Armwarmers - you gotta love armwarmers.
Full roubaix tights giving way to shorts and leg warmers gving way to shorts and knee warmers.
Gloves for all occasions. Now on my light full fingered gloves as opposed to winter glove.

Beanie hats giving way to casquettes.
Clear glasses moving to sun glasses.
Out with heavy neoprene overshoes and in with lighter waterproof overzhoes before finally moving onto booties.

    Gotta love the spring.

Thats the spirit, before you know it you'll start hitting some decent distances:p

Its a great feeling to do the first big spin of the year

Spring ftw. ...I've clocked up a whopping 900 , so

    1950K ;):)
but rear wheel on winter bike started sounding like a pin-ball machine yesterday. Took the axle out and it was snapped ! and 3 of the ball bearings were squashed flat on 1 face.

yes, I am getting a bit over enthusiastic now as I build to letape. took 1hr 20 to get into work this morning (should be 40 mins), slight detour of course as I try to get the miles in.

anyway back to this thread, have only bought a new chainring and a poxy gear cable this year. Have a big basket sitting in crc though, I just have to buy a garmin, as have no bike computer at present. And must NOW:mad: get some new cheap wheels for the winter/wet commute bike. Also had to send my respro bag cover back to crc as the neon strip light stopped working (it was ace while it lasted). Oh yes, sorry I did get some cool shades from the edge with a gift voucher, and a neck warmer from next with you guessed it a gift voucher.

Whats your commute and what did you add to it?

Whats your commute and what did you add to it?

    old way in:
    http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/22283062
    (8 miles).

    new way in:
    http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/28273592
    (20 miles)

I have lots of variants of this, especially on the way home on a friday :)

generally going in I will be doing variants of the above, shorter and longer if I can get up earlier as the hours extend.

After months of hemming and hawing, I am finally getting a Boardman Team Comp in next few das.

I haven't biked proper since school many decades ago, so my first target would be getting to the top of the estate and back..! ;) Real target is to bike to work at least once this year - 50 odd kilometers each way.

One more of us, one less of them!

Best of luck with the bike, put in the work and you'll make that cycle by May and be ready to take on bigger challenges!

So you didn't attack the Mt Leinster climb (either way) :p, I was driving from KK to Bunclody the other day and took the detour from Borris > the Nine-Stones > Bunclody, its a nice looking climb, not something you would 'add' in on a leisurely route !
Note: I still get lost though, well kinda, ie. there's a myriad of roads around Lacken/Tomduff, some are not bike friendly

I'm in Cork at the moment but am Waterford bound in the near future, not too far from it as the crow flies though.
