Anyone go out really early this morning to go to the sales? I've never been out on St.Stephens Day before but I was out by 10 this morning. It was really quiet and I was expecting it to be mobbed.

Of the places I covered, Arnotts was good, New Look was good and River Island had most of the shop on sale (but I'm leaving RI until mid January because I remember them dropping further after the first few days). Forever 21 was crap, maybe I'm just blind but nothing was on sale other than menswear and a few handbags, rendering their buy one get one free a bit useless. H&M wasn't great either, not much in the sales.

Anywho, did you find anything brilliant and what shops are the best? :)

I remember someone said that Forever 21 weren't having a proper Christmas sale here before.

I was on the RI website looking at the sale items and wasn't impressed at at all. everything was just tacky and sequins! Was it much better in store?

I doubt I'll make it to the sales soon, living in the sticks in Kerry means there's not many great sales but I'll hopefully make it to Cork or Dublin in the New Year!

River Island had a lot on sale but it was all kind of weird stuff as opposed to things you'd actually want. If you looked hard there were good things reduced massively. Theres a pencil skirt that was €50 marked down to €18 which I would love (tried it on before Christmas) but they didn't have my size and I think they might come down more. Very limited on size 6 and 8s too which was annoying.

Forever 21 had a sale advertised though on the website and were making it out to be quite big :S

River Island usually do a 50% off all sale items thing don't they? I think I'll wait for that, I've my eye on a few hats and cardigans from the men's section!

Bizarrely, I have very little desire to go to the sales this year. I called to Mahon Point on my way to my aunt's house so that I could buy her some chocs/flowers and there were very few people out.

I'm actually glad that people aren't rushing to the sales. It's kind of refreshing.

I went in today and there was a queue of people outside Urban Outfitters before the doors were opened, I went in an hour of doors opening and couldn't find anything special. Topshop have their usual big sale on,even though everybody walking around town had massive topshop bags I couldn't see anything nice on Sale. New Look looked good too, I only had a quick glance around.
Does anybody know where I can get a nice handbag on sale for winter?

That's because RI sale is mainly stock that didn't sell well at full price.

RI were even worse on size 12 jeans. Less than 5 pairs in the entire Grafton Street branch were reduced.

    forever 21 "sale" was ****
emptiest ive seen the shop since it opened

I just did a bit of sale shopping online but could only find decent stuff at good value through New Look and Dorothy Perkins.

The sale stuff in Topshop and River Island looked fairly rubbish, same seemed to apply to a lot of shops advertising online sales. I'm guessing prices will go down within the week when retailers realise not many people are splashing out.

I'm not exactly sure, but it's usually a couple of weeks after the sale starts!
I got a ton of stuff for super cheap during the last one, it was brilliant :D

Maybe someone who works in RI could let us know, I'd love a heads-up for that particular sale...

I got a pair of bottoms in the BT2 sale, they were 50% off so I was pretty pleased with that. Other than that I didn't find much in the sales. Went to pretty much every shop, Henry and Grafton St and also Dundrum. I find the online sales are much easier as most deliver to Ireland and there's no pushing or getting up early.

On a side note, wasn't town quite empty this year compared to previous years? Must be the awful weather.

I actually worked in RI myself for three years! I just don't remember this! :pac: I'll ask someone and see!

Was everything 50% off in BT? Wasn't that clear!

I was only interested in Juicy Couture and the older stuff all was. I was confused also and they said they didn't bother stickering stuff like they normally would.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,115 ✭✭✭Pacifico

Yeah was odd. Some stuff was marked down (with a pen!) on the label and other things not...

Going to head over to Mahon in the morning I think, kids down with their grandparents for the night so am looking forward to having a browse. Don't really need anything though and usually wait til the end of sales for the real bargains!

BT2 was packed when I went in, there was also a Q outside Urban Outfitters, bought soime jeans. Pretty good price.

I'm gonna fly in first thing in the morning. Not really interested in clothes at the moment though so it'll be boring old duvets and delph :o
I wanna get back out before the crowds descend!

Some Juicy bags were 40% off anyway so I imagine others were too.

I thought the sales were absolutely crap this year compared to other years, which was actually quite surprising after the savage budget that we just had plus the fact that most people are obviously fairly skint compared to previous years.

BT2 had only their crap stock out and most of their decent stuff was 'New Season' and not on sale. Same with Arnotts, 30% off old stuff and nothing off the stuff that I had mu eye on plus their G-Star and Superdry stuff were not on sale at all for some reason.

On the subject of Superdry, their store on Suffolk Street was closed today but I remember last year that they didn't have a sale at all, does anyone know if the are having a sale this year? I really hope they do coz I have my eye on a jacket and I aint paying €200 for it :p

Sorry to disappoint but Superdry as a brand do not have sales! I think it might because the product all carries forward season to season.
The only hope in getting a reduction on the jacket is waiting till it arrives in Kildare Village and it most likely will only be 30% off.

On the subject of sales I really don't understand the desire to shop product thats price had been slashed because it isn't selling.

Went to mahon point and Cork this morning and was verrryyyy disapointed. Many things had been reduced since before christmas and to be honest 50% off is not enough to make me want to splurge. Wanted to get a nice dark red leather bag but the nicest one I was was about €900 in BTs and not reduced:eek::eek: Save your time and money guys and gals.

Got the Jennifer Aniston perfume that was launched in Harrods a few months ago for 13 Euro in McCabes.

It's a really clean soapy smelling perfume. Bargain of the day.

    Erm.. Reductions are a sale..

But anyways I picked up lots of shirts/jeans in RI in Waterford today! Seemed to be a LOT of stock on sale there!

Dunnes and Penneys mark down stuff on the odd sale rale here and there but nothing on Debenhams that have major signage stickers promotions leaflets ads about their sale etc. Reductions are much easier to do than a full blown sale. I'd imagine forever 21 will do the same as Dunnes and Penneys..

Yeah but Forever 21 have a proper "Boxing Day" sale in store, not just one or two reductions of clothes which would never be sold! :P

ok so - I hit Mahon Point yesterday and then went to a friend who gave me a Mahon Point Gift voucher (gutted since I'd already spent my own bobs!!!) - anyway, I went with a list and stuck with it, mostly..........got 2 skirts in Zara for 19.99 each and a dress in Zara for 29.99 - I have only work skirts, so I wanted to get a few casual ones.....

these are the skirts - I got it in black and stone..... http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/11710/en/zara-W2010-s/50897/12801/%27%27PLEATED%2BSKIRT%2C%2BPLAITED%2BBELT%27%27

(had to resist the urge to buy all 4 colours!).......the dress isn't on the site though (it's a black & white check wrap dress - though the dresses I wanted weren't there) - the dress wasn't on the list, but hey, I wanted it and it fit!

I got a new winter coat in Debenhams (also on the list) - gone off the site, they had it there yesterday! it's a black kinda swing coat reduced from 128 to 64, I didn't want to get a military style one cos I want something I can drag out for the next couple of years without it looking out of style!

Went back then today with my voucher and bought some (ahem) undies - also on the list and another skirt in Swamp, a little grey swing thing......it'll look good with black opaques..........19.98 - so all in, not a bad couple of days shopping - still want to get a Jasper Conran dress in Debenhams, so I might try the one on Pana, but I reckon it could be fate and I'm not meant to have it if they didn't have it in Mahon Point!!! but didn't go mad and didn't buy anything I didn't want - though had a hairy minute in Monsoon when I was looking at a top for 50 quid - but just couldn't think of anywhere I'd wear it, so left it.........(Brian Lenihan was on my shoulder whispering 'save it for me pet'..........so I did :D)

Edit - should also add that on both days I was there for about 9.30 and the car park was jammers, but the centre didn't appear to be that busy and certainly, I wasn't queuing to pay at any point........

Has anyone been to Dundrum yet? What was it like? I presume Massimo Dutti have some sort of a sale on? Any idea on reductions? Also wondering about GANT too? Cheers

Anyone been down to superdry in kildare village recently? Really wanna get a few things but there selection is limited enough during the year, i was thinking it'd be even more so during the sales and i might be better off waiting a few weeks.

    Cheers

Very disappointing this year, mind you there wasn't much in the shops that I actually liked this season! RI was really bad, I saw things in the sale that had been in the summer sale too  I hate when shops do that! Got a skirt and a dress, the changing rooms were closed so i had to try them on at home, one is too big and the other just sits weirdly, back they go tomorrow! New Look was okay, some lovely shoes and a few other bits. Got a pair of real leather heeled boots for 49, down from 86. :) Didn't really look anywhere else, I didn't like a lot of the trends this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,354 ✭✭✭cjmcork

I think A/Wear did their usual bringing-in-a-load-of-sh1te trick cos most of the stuff in the sale wasn't instore during the year - also, loads of the stuff on the website is nowhere to be seen in the shops...............ggggrrrr

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,722 Mod ✭✭✭✭Twee.

Picked up a nice jumpsuit in Topshop today. But jeez, I went in with money burning a hole in my pocket and left with one thing! Some bits in Urban Outiftters that I might wait to see if they go down further in a few weeks, same with some Office flat shoes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 87 ✭✭Villette

The sales were disappointing - especially after the hype with shops claiming that pre-Christmas sales have been down!
The reductions were just too small in Topshop with no real accessories sale to speak of. I saw just two styles of bag on sale and three pairs of tights.
I bought a jumper dress, an art deco-style watch, a ring, tights and socks in River Island. Even they were disappointing, but I think that most of the nice stuff just flew off the rails too quickly!
Lush have a good sale on at the moment though, with all the gift boxes half price and most of the normal stock also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,260 ✭✭✭jdivision

I was in Debenhams - a Fossil wallet was E45, the one next to it had the sterling price - stg#25, which is E30. Even with a 33% reduction you're only paying what people in UK are paying as full price. That's why we should wait for further reductions. If everybody held off for a week you'd see proper sales.

Hit up the Urban Outfitters sale today and got loads of nice stuff. Decent reductions and a good amount of stock. Also a lot of the same stuff is on the website too if you can't find your size instore :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,419 ✭✭✭✭jokettle

I had a wander around Henry Street and Temple Bar today, wasn't overly impressed....I bought a few things in Zara and loads of long sleeved tops to replace some I've worn to death this winter! But nothing really got me excited.

Having said that, I have a cold/cough thing so maybe I'm just not in the right humour for shopping.

Also, I was in town at 10 and back out after 12, it was only just getting busy as I left. Definitely go in early in the day if you want to preserve your sanity!

Just saw this; I was in there today but didn't see any sale section. There could be reductions on some things but nothing caught my eye. I may not have been paying enough attention though :o

    http://www.newlook.com/shop/womens/wide-fit-shoes-and-boots/patent-court-heel_203579658

7 quid in New Look this morning!!!

to be honest, I can't say I'm too impressed with the sales - looks like lots of rubbish in some of the shops............I've been in early every morning that I've gone so the stock has been tidy, but all the same - nothing to write home about........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,535 ✭✭✭Raekwon

I nipped into BT2 on Grafton Street earlier and the 'sale' in the mens section was comical. 90% of their stock is New Season and not in the sale and all they had left were a few racks of what look like over and under sized rags that were on sale.

Around this time last year they still had some decent stuff left and alot were marked down to 75% off, I got a pair of lovely G-Star jeans for €50 (they were suppose to be something like €130) plus a few t-shirts for next to nothing.

The sales this year were a huge let down, hopefully shops do record low trading because of it and start bringing back decent sales like years gone by.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭shezza

Dundrum's sale is weak. House of Fraser is like a thrift shop can't see anything. Oasis isn't bad got two dresses one for 20 and one for 30 that I had considered buying at full price. I always get stuff in the zara sale but this year it wasn't great just got a nice handbag. Good deals on shoes though but the pair I wanted of course didn't have my size and coats though. Overall disappointing :-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 902 ✭✭✭lainey316

There's two coats in Zara I want alright but one is reduced from 129 to 119 and the other from 139 to 129 - that's not what I expect from a January sale!
