Hi ppl, the cold has finally killed my battery!
So looking to buy, its a VW Passat TDI '02,
been doing a bit of research and the CCA(Cold Cranking Ampage) rating seems to be all important when buying.
Anywhere in Galway or Dublin that does good value on them?

Snap, just bought one off a tire place, 125 euro, I get trade discount in all the local factors but they are obviously not open today.

From experience, my favourite is Varta. Tend to give at least 5 years, most cheap batteries seem to fail after 2 to 3 years.

yip, the CCA is important and also the hours rate. But the most important thing when buying a battery is getting a good brand. There are loads of cheaper batteries put there, but they last pissing time. The biggest brand out there is Yuasa. Oldham were recently bought out by a budget range company who are re-badging these, but the quality, from what I heard, is not as good as it was.

Yes Halfords stock these, pricey at around €120 for them but they have a 5 year guarantee. Should be open tomorrow as far as I know.

Just bought one of these. Supposedly far better than normal batteries. VRLA/AGM tech in them.
I bought it because the car will be spending a lot of time between drives off the road in storage.

You'd get a few trickle chargers for the difference in price....

True. But my car came with a dedicated conditioner/trickle charger.
I also bought one of these for the heavy duty work:

These gel/vrla/agm batteries seem to be the business. Cold weather affects them less, they last longer, being disharged doesnt overly damage them and they lose charge at a lower rate through disuse. I have yet to prove those claims for myself through personal use but most sources seem to backup their claims.
