Keynote on ipad

    Hi,

Thinking of getting an iPad, and my main justification for the price is the ability to improve my presentations (I'm a lecturer).

I have all of my lectures on ppt format, and I would like to know if they can be edited after importing to keynote on iPad?

Ideally I would like to simply "jazz up" my presentations without having to re-do them from scratch. Is that possible? To edit existing ppt files on iPad keynote?

Yes. Check it out here: http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/keynote.html

You can both import and export Powerpoint files from Keynote on iPad. You can connect the iPad to a projector too; you just need to buy the iPad VGA adapter.

    Thanks.

I'm okay with the idea of it being able to import a ppt file. My main concern is: is that file then editable, or can you just import and have to play it as it is?

I'm not 100% sure but any of the fancy (jazzy) stuff that is present in keynote will not be saved if you save it as a PowerPoint file. Yes you can save it as a keynote file and use it on iPad but if you want to use it on another pc you will then have problems.

You can edit it as well. However, as jonseyblub says, if you want all the fancy stuff that you put in to stay when you transfer it to a computer, you'll have to export it as a Keynote file.

You would probably be best off going totally Mac or staying totally Windows. I tried to use both for a brief period but its always during a presentation you notice the differences.

Do you use a Mac or are you on Windows?

Keynote on mac is sooo much nicer to use than powerpoint on windows.

    Hi

I use both mac and pc. All of my slides have been made on ppt, but we got a mac at home during the summer and I prefer keynote now.

My plan is to upload my existing slides onto the iPad, then edit them on it to jazz them up. I plan to show them on the iPad, so re-loading them to pc and loosing some of the gloss is not really gonna happen in my case.

    Thanks for the replies.

You'd probably find it much easier to edit keynote on the Mac, and then transfer over to iPad. I believe its isn't great trying to edit on the iPad.

I didn't even know you could edit on the iPad. I'd imagine it would be a utter annoyance for anything other than a spelling error.

Thank guys. Got my iPad yesterday an havent had much time to play with it yet. I used dropbox to get a ppt file onto it, works a treat.

I can edit the text and play around with transitions and stuff, but I'm left with what's probably a silly newbue question:

How do you change the main slide background colour/theme? The slides I brought in from ppt have a plain blue background and I'd like to change that.

    Thanks
