Dunno what to make of it  ...i'm confused because it's got a great cast, but went straight to DVD

Just finished watching it, i haven't seen the first movie....honestly i thought it was pretty cack, it only got good in the final 10 mins with the reveal and establishing the character Frankenstein, which i guess makes this a prequel.

It does have Tanit Phoenix....drool!, Sean Bean, Danny Trejeno, Luke Goss, Ving Rhames. Made in South Africa, you can tell they had a medium sized budget but filming in SA allowed them to stretch it out a bit more.

It was rather average, i think Luke Goss could be the next Jason Staitham though.

I think Luke Goss is more in the lines of Ray Park, not really a leading man but is very good in prosthetics and action stunts
i have this film to watch and the cast looks great but as you say it went straight to dvd

Corman's Death Race 2000 was camp cheesey fun,Death Race I thought was crap devoid of any of the originals charm,a sequel to that was obviously going to be gash.

    As for the great cast.

They have only ever been supporting actors with the exception of one or two movies.

Have it on Blu Ray waiting to be watched. I enjoyed the remake, apart from the fairy tale ending.

Direct to DVD is the perfect place for a film such as Death Race 2, the 18s cert combined with the warning on the cert about it containing strong violence is what I look for in a B film such as this. The cast is good but none of them is a big enough name to sit atop a title on a cinema poster, Luke Goss has given a number of great performances but he's also more familiar with the SYfy channel and low budget creature features than he is with the inside of a cinema, the same goes for both Sean Bean and Danny Trejo.

The reviews from genre sites for the film are very encouraging, they claim that its a 100 minutes of cars and bloodshed which is what Death Race is all about though I do hope that some of the originals black humour is present also.

Much the same as the first movie-seen a lot worse though. For action it's all you need, just turn the brain off.
