Don't know why they are closed on Weds 29th as it is a normal working day .

Most business's resume on 29th .- Maybe they need an extra day to sort all the mail they failed to deliver before Christmas .

Best of luck - hope you receive your package on 30th

Because they work 7 days a week right up to Christmas eve, and even postal workers need a couple of days off. Most of them have been in from 5AM for the last 2 weeks.

Does their "brilliant service" include a package, date stamped March 2010 in the UK, that I recieved last week?

While I would agree 100% with my local postie. The guy deserves a month off. The local post offices in general provide a great service. An Post leaves a lot to be desired in other areas. Specifically parcel delivery. Their tracking system may be up to date, but it shows up the serious delays that can occur. I'd say around 1 in 3 of my packages(coming from the EU) languish in the sorting office way longer than they should. EG 6 months back, parcel from Spain. Gets from Spain to Dublin in under 2 days. Sits in bloody portlaoise for 2 weeks. Another from Germany. Same kinda thing. Leaves there pretty quickly gets to here, bangs into the paddy factor and again lets twiddle our thumbs. I might understand if it was coming from outside the EU, customs/duty etc. Even then the delays are a bit excessive. It's something I've heard many foriegn types mention too. One thing I will say though, is once a package gets here the chances of it being stolen are a lot slimmer than other countries.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

you seem to be assuming the problem is on the an post side??????

have you ever seen how royal mail operate in the uk?? - they are light years behind an post and that's being kind to them.

as for the op - an post does not deliver royal mail parcels, gls do.
