Quick question lads, what type of UHF ariel will pick up new DTT channels in Ballyvolane Cork.
AFAIK it's being transmitted from Collins Barracks,

I'm using one of these from Argos & it's working grand just off Douglas St, took a bit of experimenting to find a working location for it. Checked before I purchased that I could take it back if it didn't work.

Thanks for the recommendations watty - where would one get one of those UHF set-top aerials (I'm in Limerick which narrows my options!)? is it only online in somewhere like Maplin? I need it asap so waiting for delivery is not ideal. Argos / Power City etc. only seem to do the 'one for all' or Philex ones and I really want to avoid getting one given the feedback from everyone on the forums!

    Thanks a mill :)

Try a piece of wire from a coathanger. Straight, 10 inches long stuck into the female end of an aerial extension lead. If you are in a strong signal area which 60% of people are, you will get enough signal. You need to know whether it is vertical or horizontal polarisation, and which direction. But try it, it is free if it works. If it works I will give instructions for a better version.

Maplin off Childers Road has them about €14. A Bargain store (in Wickam St?) has them about €6 (the narrow street top of Willaim Street coming down from Railway Station, near the Tobacco Factory Retail shop)

The €2 VHF telescopic + UHF loop aerials in the bargain stores in Limerick (e.g. wonder world) are poorer. But do work as well as some of the €20+ One For Alls.

I believe these are the Mercury ST38. They are available on ebay delivered to Ireland for less than 13 euro, slightly cheaper than Maplin :)

Maplin is expensive, but sometimes convenient.

I'm sure you can get such aerials for €4 online.

I bought mine in the Local Co-op.
