Appears to be freeview only, not freeview HD which is what's required for Saorview.

Does not appear to be anything. There is no model number and no spec. Even the models with MPEG4 are described by sony as being MPEG2. Without the model number, there is no information. It couls be MPEG 2 only but all Sony TVs have been MPEG 4 for a while now. If it is MPEG2 only, then it is very old stock.

I know, I saw one for sale in Liffeyvalley M&S but could not find anyone to complain to about it. Disgraceful. I assume current sale are a last opportunity to rid them selves of the last of the cr@p.

No, BX300 is HD ready, whereas they describe this TV as full HD. Strange.

Apparently it's the Sony KDL-40BX400 (there is thread in the bargain alert section confirming this ). Tesco are selling it for the 449 Euro too.

I was looking at it as well, good luck getting one from Argos though it appears they either had limited stock or everyone decided they needed a new forty inch on St. Stephens Day. I tried to reserve it and it seems to be out of stock pretty much everywhere. Pity, cause it's one hell of a deal.

I bought this in Tesco. But when i tune in digital station they comes up "scramble can't decode" except for RTE1. I have my UPC cable plugged in.
    Anyone how to fix this.

Sorry i'm new to all this.

    Thanks

You mean a seriously crappy RTE2 picture :) , that means it is incompatible with Irish Digital TV and should be brought back for a full refund.

RTE are temporarily broadcasting a crap RTE2 signal to prove that you have an incompatible telly...the good news is your aerial is fine had you the right TV :)

Currys have some nice deals on Irish Digital TV compatible LG and Sony models right now, spend your money there rather than in Aldi M&S Argos or Tesco who persistently dump crap on the Irish consumer.

Not that Currys are entirely angels but their well known brandname TVs work whatever about the nonames.

    Thanks Sponge bob.

But here it says the telly is compatible

Someone point out that the UPC cable wont work with saorview and to use a UHF aerial

Many Argos tech products have incorrect low-specs, I always look for the full specs from the source.

Try that so, is digital tuning (aka DTT or DVB-T) turned on as well as analogue ??

I try it with an make up aerial and got all the irish stations to work.
its a pity it doesn't work with UPC cable

You could get it to work with UPC by using a diplexer, it depends on where you are. In Dublin, the DVB signal is on Ch 54, which is quite high up. A lowpass filter on the UPC and high pass for DVB could work.
