Sledging in Cricket...

Having discussed Anderson's spats in the three tests and Pietersen saying sledging isn't a problem (which it isn't), let's recount some of the best stories out there on the subject. From your own experience or what you've seen at a game or on TV.
Remember, this thread is only a bit of fun. Don't take it personally.
And bumping into batsmen as they're running the track doesn't count!
    Has to be verbals.

    I'll get things started.

It was I think 97 or 98. Can't remember which test but Australia were playing Sri Lanka. Around the time of Murali no-ball call. Relations between the two teams were bottom of the barrel.
While batting, Ranatunga was acting up trying to delay play towards a draw but Aussie were nabbing wickets and he was running out of partners on the square.
New bats, gloves, drinks, headgear were all called upon and not just the once either.
Skipper was Tubby Taylor if I remember rightly and when Ranatunga all of a sudden called for a runner despite no injury, Tubs objected to the umpires. Overheard, live on Channel 9, via stump mike and cam . . . was a frustrated Ian Healy saying "Mate, you don't get a runner just for being a fat c***"
    Cue commercials instantly!
I was watching this live in local at the bar. A beer-through-the-nose moment if ever there was.

Upon his arrival at the crease during a Test match in 2001,Little-known England player James Ormond copped grief from Mark Waugh. "---- me, look who it is. Mate, what are you doing out here? There's no way you're good enough to play for England." Quick as you like, Ormond said: "Maybe not, but at least I'm the best player in my family."

Daryll Cullinan v Warne: As Cullinan was on his way to the wicket, Warne told him that he had been waiting two years for another chance to humiliate the South African. The Proteas batsman's response? “Looks like you spent it eating."

It seems that while I was starting this thread as promised in main Ashes thread, another poster got one going at the same time.

Mods, feel free to merge or whatever.

Not funny, not clever, just idiocy.

Sums up my attitude to sledging actually - if you have to resort to it, either you've already been beaten in the battle or you're afraid you will be.

Don't get me wrong, I like to hear the funny stuff.

But acting the hard man on the cricket pitch?
    Its bloody stupid.

I liked the Jamaican fast bowler approach.
Is he pissing you off? take his head off.

Playing against a very unscrupulous team in Div 11 this year who were closing out a tight game with their umpires turning everything down, including a big nick behind. To use a musical analogy the match was a Done Drum so to speak. Anyway by outright cheating they require 10 with 4 wickets in hand. Their batsman, who had been out lbw at least a dozen times, skied one to mid off. The catch, coming straight out of the sun, was put down needless to say. Our bowler, pointing to the umpire said "Don't worry about it mate, it wouldn't have been given anyway."

They got into fights did they? Nope.

Have a delve into the origins of sledging by the way. I'll bet many don't even get the right hemisphere as far as its beginnings are concerned.

Missing the point there Justin,me ol mucker.
I was responding to someone who said anyone who resorts to sledging knows they're beaten-i responded with an example of two players who never thought they were beaten but still did a bit of sledging.
Your post is irrelevant to what I said.
