hi folks just a question in relation to three, and iphone 4.

if i have an iphone 4, sim free on three, with a 30 day contract sim, is the option to turn 3g on and off still there? or is it removed?

i havent connected the phone to itunes yet, to get carrier file, so id prefer to just manually enter settings rather than use their carrier file.

    cheers

Cellular data can be turned on and off, but 3g specifically doesn't seem to give an option, although I assume it is the data you meant as otherwise you wouldn't be with 3. Or you could just select 3 as your carrier rather than 3 (3G).

As far as the carrier file, some fcuker in Apple decided to remove the option to not download it, and forced it on customers, even when they have an unlocked phone, with the iOS4.1 update. It is still happening with the current iOS4.2 as far as I know, so the manual option is no longer available (unless maybe if you jailbreak).

hi thanks for the info... i prefer to have control over 2g and 3g espically if its an ulocked phone.

is there any way to get this control back , so if in a weak 3g area i have the option of switching to a stronger 2g signal?

    cheers

That's easily done by selecting the carrier. If you set it to automatic, it will switch to 2g whenever the 3g signal gets too weak, and eventually switches back once it realises the 3g signal is strong enough. You can also manually select it with 3 as when you do the carrier search, 3 appears twice, once as 3 (3G) and once as just 3. The second version is 2g, it is actually Vodafone, who provide the 2g coverage for 3.

excellent thanks for that, rang three just to check that the port had been requested, so she said she would put in another request, very efficient, and within 5 mins number was fully ported.. very impressed i was.

got the classic flex max plan, €30 per month 30 day contract and unlimited landline calls. which actually halves what i was previously paying.

just put in the three sim, i didnt have to enter any settings or info, it just worked perfectly, and i didnt even plug it into itunes yet!.

set the network manually now thanks for that,

    so far so good!

Where did you get Classic Flex Max for 40. It's 30 on Three's site.

    Cheers

hi folks, is there any way to get the enable/disable 3g button back?

i asume that its settings on the 3 sim card thats forcing this to happen?

before i synced with itunes the enable/disable 3g button was not there, i synced the phone with itunes, and it shows me as using carrier file 9.0
