Anyone know if wheelspin affects the reading of the odometer? For example if you put the throttle down full blast in a low gear up a steep hill and the wheels are spinning mad, are you adding additional miles to the odometer? Can someone confirm.

By the way I dont do the above... just wondering for my own information.

    Cheers.

If the vehicles wheels are spinning how is it supposed to know the difference.?

    A built in motion sensor?

the only way i could think of relating physical mileage to actual mileage is GPS and im afraid that has not happened yet..

Mileage in most cars is mechanical, based on how many revolutions a gear turns inside the gearbox.

If a person "spins the wheels" the same results will show up on the odometer.

    Cheers.

Course it is. A built in motion sensor is great and all, apart from the fact that the parts of the car (engine, gears, etc) would all have done milage recorded by the odometer, despite how much the car actually moves. You could have a car on a rolling road all day, doesn't mean the parts aren't being used/worn.
