More details please - one tank or two? Where exactly is the leak?

If its the inlet pipes to the tank thats mains water under pressure and you need to turn it off to prevent flooding. There is usually a stopcock (shut off valve) under the kitchen sink somewhere. If not it will be outside the house somewhere under a small manhole, but you will need a key to turn it off. Once you have the mains turned off, open the cold tap at the kitchen sink to drain down the pipe going to the attic. This should stop any leaks in the attic until you can get a plumber out.

If you have your own well you may be able to stop the water supply by switching off the well pump. Good luck.
