Attic insulation

Got price for attic insulation in 20 yr old bungalow, quite big house, think they said they would pump it in. Price is €1300 if cash is paid, can not avail of grant as we had walls pumped a few yrs ago and you can't get grant for just attic insulation.
    Does price sound reasonable?
Husband is in building trade so very handy, would we be as well to buy lots of insulation ourselves and just put it down ourselves?
If so what is best to use?

    Please advise......

You can get a separate grant for attic insulation but it's "only" €250 and since earlier this year you have to get a BER cert done to avail of it.

Do you know what area the attic is? €1300 sounds like a lot for attic insulation but it depends on the area covered and the quality of the insulation.

Most types of attic insulation are easy enough to do a DIY job on.

    sounds like a rip-off.
Buy a few rolls of insulation in any builders suppliers and do it yerself, or pay a young lad to lay it down.

I think it sounds very expensive too, it is my parents house, we have recently had a new baby and stay here quite a lot so heating the house has just taken on a whole new focus but they have spent a lot on it recently so would be great to save a few bob if we could help it. I do not know the area of house.
Will research what to buy and hope to do it ourselves.

Probably best not to bother at all if you do that.

A young lad might do a reasonable job sweeping a driveway, but putting insulation in is not something I'd have a young lad do, for a number of reasons.

As long as he knows what he's doing, thats ok.
But if he puts his foot down through a ceiling,it wont be a cheap job then.
