In this thread, I would like for everyone to give one high and one low of the year.

High: The emergence of Brian Danielson. It is no secret I think they guy is the greatest thing to happen the industry in a long time. I hope his career contiues in the same direction. He truly is "The Best Wrestler In The World".

Low: I must say, apart from the above, I have hated almost everything the WWE have produced this year. I can only think of a handful of decent matches. The Nexus storyline is about the only redeeming feature.

High: Agree with you on Bryan Danielson, though I’m a little more inclined to choose the Nexus angle.

Low: TNA for the most part.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,448 ✭✭✭Garseys

High: wwe's "youth movement" great to see young stars get over!
    Daniel Bryan in general.
    Nexus
    Michaels Taker from WM.

Lows: WWECW finishing up.TNAs abysmal head to head with Raw.
    Jeff Hardys return to TNA.

    Highs: Danielson, Gen Me, Nexus.

    Lows: Smackdown lately, TNA.

Can't give just 1 tbh so here's mine:

    Highs:
    - The Nexus Invasion of Raw during a Cena/Punk match on Viewers Choice Raw in the summer, starting the whole Nexus storyline.
    - Miz winning the Raw MitB and cashing in to win the Title. Say what you want but the guy's had 1 hell of a year.
    - Batista's awesome fashion sense
    - Bryan Danielson in WWE
    - Gen Me/Beer Money/MCMG in TNA
    - MizGirl's reaction in Miz winning
    - Punk on commentary on Raw
    - Ziggler/Danielson's match at Bragging Rights
    - Ric Flair in TNA

    Lows:
    - The push and then, complete burial of underused talent e.g Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger...
    - TNA turning in WCW 2.0
    - The whole tag team division in WWE
    - The killing of the S.E.S on SmackDown
    - The killing of SmackDown since the SyFy move.

Some of my highs are directly related to my lows. Which sums up what an up and down year it has been for wrestling.

    Highs:

Danielson in general and particularly his matches with Ziggler
MCMG getting the acclaim they deserve
    One last HBK/Taker match
Seeing Bret Hart and HBK bury the hatchet
    Seeing the Nexus arrive
    CM Punk

    Lows:

    Shawn Michaels retiring
Bret v Vince, what an awful match (everything Bret did after promo with HBK was awful)
Cena still playing the superhero role. The only thing that could save Cena for me would be a double turn in a Mania match against CM Punk.
The booking of Nexus after their arrival. They never looked like a genuine threat to Cena at any stage.
CM Punk and the SES getting buried

Overall my number 1 high was Danielson and HBK retiring was the number 1 low.

Will have to mention a couple here...

    Highs:

    - Bret returning
    - The Nexus angle
    - Fergal Devitt doing Ireland proud in Japan
    - Cena's efforts to help younger stars, and not just on screen, like when he urged fans to call for Bryan to be rehired and when he tried to get Bourne a push. Still a class act and a reason I keep watching.
    - Sheamus continuing to do well
    - Motor City Machine Guns, Beer Money and Gen Me breathing life into tag team wrestling fun
    - The commentary of Cole and Matthews on NXT

    Lows:

    - TNA being a disastrous mess even by their standards
    - Daniel Bryan being released for such a stupid reason
    - Smackdown with Kane as champion
    - The 'Stand Up for WWE' idiocy
    - Batista leaving when he was in the form of his life
    - Bubba the Love Sponge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89,007 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

    High:

Motor City Machine Guns finally winning the TNA tag titles :)

    Low:

Christian not winning a world title in WWE and being out injured :(

High : The Nexus June 7th RAW invasion

Low : Nexus booking since the Survivor Series.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,469 ✭✭✭✭GTR63

I'm not a positive guy so I have to say the Highs were Danielson, MCMG's,Beer Money, Angle,Styles & a few others having good matches in spite of their products not being interested in quality matches anymore.
The lows wwe has been very shortsighted for years which has left them in the spot their in now. Tna...where do I even begin.
I'd say Prince Devitt but I haven't seen much of him but I always read Power Slam to see how he's doing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,116 ✭✭✭starviewadams

    Highs:

    Bret Hart's return
Bryan Danielson's quick ascension up the ladder in WWE
Michael Cole and Josh Matthews commentary on NXT Season 3
    Batista's heel character
    Alberto Del Rio
Sheamus and his steady improvement and progress
The absense of Triple H for most of the year
    Miz winning the big one
    Kaitlyn
Vickie Guererro and her awesome heelish-ness

    Lows:

    Jack Swaggers aborted push
The ending of the Nexus angle
    Hogan,Bisch and Flair in TNA
    HBK's retirement
    SmackDown!

High- Seeing all the new talent coming through.

Low- The end to the Bret Hart storyline.

Every one is slating the wwe but i reckon this has been a great year. Too many folk take the wwe too seriously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,560 ✭✭✭✭Kess73

    Highs

    Punk on commentary
    MCMG
    Beer Money
Seamus for the first six months
Hogan continuing to show how irrelevant he is.
    HBK retiring.
Angle looking like he has gotten his life back on track.

    Lows

    Punk being injured
    SES being buried
    Smackdown being ruined.
    PG
Another year without JBL on commentary.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,380 ✭✭✭geeky

    Highs:
-The first night of the Nexus angle and the 'holy sh1t' reaction it got from the most jaded of fans.
-Kurt Angle seeming to get back on track after a rough patch
-Anderson and Pope proving that WWE dropped the ball on them
-Punk, generally. No better heel around for sheer inventiveness and creepiness
-Seeing HHH actually working to elevate a new star
-That star being Ireland's own Sheamus, who's grasped his opportunity brilliantly.

    Lows:
    - Jeff and Matt HArdy going off the rails
    - TNA spending huge amounts of money and still ending up with an unwatchable product
    - Taker's continued physical decline
    - Hart-McMahon

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,284 ✭✭✭Gerard.C

High: Daniel Bryan, Nexus, Sheamus, The Miz

    Low: TNA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,476 ✭✭✭Riddle101

    Highs:
Batista's heel turn and run up until he left
    Undertaker Vs HBK
    Nexus(But only up until Summerslam)
Kane winning the World Heavyweight Championship(For me anyway)
Sheamus winning King of The Ring(For me again)

    Lows:
John Cena destorying Nexus's credibility(beating them at Summerslam, joining Nexus only to do what he was doing before even though the Raw GM said he couldn't touch any members of Nexus, and getting fired with all the event sleading up to TLC)

    HBK retiring
    Christian's injury(Just because I'm a fan of his)
Randy Orton being booked like John Cena No.2

Think I'm going to have to steal some of yours...

    Highs:
    The Nexus push
CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler in general
    The TLC PPV
Return of the King of the Ring

    Lows:
    The Nexus push
    Smilin' Stone Cold Steve Orton
A whole bunch of people I like being released including Shelton Benjamin, Jimmy Wang Yang and (bring back pirate) Paul Burchill
Hart vs McMahon, and the ten minute matches of Wrestlemania 26

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,153 ✭✭✭Jolt2007

High-The Steen/Generico feud throughout the year. Finest feud in a long, long time.

Low-Skip Sheffield's injury. He was getting quite the nice push and other than Barrett was about the only Nexus member that looked like a threat. It's no coincidence it's been all downhill for Nexus since he's been out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,820 ✭✭✭grames_bond

    Highs:

    Bret Harts return
    Sheamus' continued push
    HBK vs Taker 2
Danielson as the star we know he is!
WWE's youth push (NEXUS, Ziggler, Miz, etc)

    Lows:

    Hog-Off ruining TNA
WWE ruining the endless possibilities they had with Bret
    WWE ruining Nexus
    MEGAcena squashing everyone
    HBK retiring
    Jerichos incredibly noticeable absence
    Batista leavin in his prime

    Roll on 2011!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,348 ✭✭✭✭ricero

high: id say the miz just edges past the nexus both ave been brillant this year especially barretts and the miz skills on the mic.

low: hbk retiring without being a world champ again.
hogan to tna i was really expecting some serious competition from tna but it quickly faded away.
also ric flair returning really pissed me off after wwe threw him a great exit and retirement story for him to leave for good

    High:
Kane getting a lengthy World Title run (I still love him damn it)

    Low:
The complete pillaging of Smackdown!. I recall hearing that Vince wanted to push Smackdown as a dominant brand, that went to hell.

I'd have put a list for both, but these two are tops.

Thats a bit harsh isn't it. A handful decent matches? A handful? In the thousands of shows that WWE do a year they only produced a handful of decent matches?

    Anywho

    Highs:
    Steen/Generico fued
    ROH on HDnet
    Smackdown pre SyFy
The first few months of The Nexus angle
Many new breakout stars: Bryan, Ziggler, Miz, Swagger, Sheams, Morrison

    Paul Bearer abduction angle
    Smackdown post SyFy
The firing of many talented wrestlers: MVP, Kaval, Benjamin, Roxxi, Kong

    The Hogan/Bischoff regime

Thank god someone mentioned this. Quite possibly the best feud in a number of years. Truly awesome

High: Kurt Angle vs. Mr. Anderson at Lockdown, absolutely terrific stuff.

    Low: Almost everything else.

Going to have to start looking at ROH in 2011, or give up on wrestling completely I think.

Why bother watching wrestling when you've hated almost everything this year?

That happened me a few years ago so I stopped, except for wrestlemania.

I watch very little wrestling. I followed TNA until recently when I just couldn't bear it anymore. Haven't watched WWE in about 4-5 years, I consider going back to it every now and then (guys like The Miz and CM Punk interest me) but from what I can gather the product sounds really awful.

High : Unexpectedly enjoying Jeff Hardy heel run in TNA

Low : TNA/Hogan's constant breaking kayfabe on TV. I don't care how many fake titles you won, brother, I don't care whether you're heel or face, ya gotta up the ratings and the PPV buyrates, brother. STOP TELLING ME YOUR SHOW IS FAKE.

He only did that once thankfully (full on anyway) and it was on ReAction so hopefully nobody saw it but yeah, that was the most cringe worthy, backwards, counter-productive, Russo-riffic promo ever broadcast on a wrestling programme.

I'm glad that word is catching on :pac::pac:

I think Joe and Anderson use the words "work" or "shoot" in their promos, does my head in!! :p "I want a shoot match with you Jarrett!" (Wait, so your match at the PPV was a work?)

    High : Jeff Jarrett's Double-M A gimmick (especially the Children's Dojo vignette)

Low : Samoa Joe. Everything about him depresses me, especially since i started watching TNA near the end of 2005 when Joe was brilliant.

    Tee hee! :D

I should add LayCool's vignettes as a high. At times they've been one of the strongest parts of a show for me.

Low would be the Women's and Divas titles getting unified but the giant butterfly of doom belt being kept on show.

I watched Angles debut in tna vs Joe on TNA Epics last nite and I think having Joe lose for the first time in Tna via tapout after being booked so strong previously was a real bad move. The repackage with Rambo's Knife didn't work at all either, neither did the weight he put on for that matter. Its hard to know where he goes from here.I'm a huge fan but I question his motivation now.
