Sewer downpipe full of water

    One of the waste-water downpipes at the side of my house is full of water.

    I noticed yesterday that the toilet in the main bathroom was filled with water, so I assumed there was a blockage in the s-bend. I drained out the water with a jug, and tried to remove the blockage, but could find none. So I want on my way.

    Came home from work and discovered the same thing. Investigated further, and discovered one of the other toilets upstairs was the same. Went out to check the down-pipe and discovered it's full of water buy tapping it, and comparing to the other downpipe.

    A 4 inch down pipe would hardly freeze would it? Any other tips?

    You probably have a blockage somewhere which caused a backup and yes it is likely that the water in your soil pipe has frozen
    lift a manhole cover nearby to investigate the original blockage
    it wont be pretty
    the frozen water in your soil pipe will need to be defrosted then
