Dublin to Cork main Route

Hi all, heading home to Cork tomorrow from Dublin- Has anyone been travelling on this route- Im afraid that maybe people have only been driving in one lane which could result in everyone having to stay behind one slow driver which would possibly push me over the edge-
Was considering leaving at either lunch time or 9 or 10pm when most of the light weight traffic should be off the road-

ARE BOTH LANES OPEN AND DRIVEABLE ALL THE WAY TO CORK?

    Thanks, Yarra

was thinking about doing that journey today .... but after a phone call from my parents - thinking I might stay in Dublin - Parents live up a hill and getting up it is impossible in the snow/ice ... people are abandoning cars ...and to top it off ...they told me they dont have any water ...for the last 2 days.

I'm comfortable at the moment in Dublin - can get to the shops ... and have the option of christmas at the girlfriends place....oh decisions decisions ... I have to work on the 26th ...so will only be a short visit if I travel down.

might wait until tomorrow and make the journey .... depends on how I feel ...lol

ps. I also have a joint pressie for my parents which other family members contributed to (and I purchased) ...so kinda feel obliged to try get home...its too late to post it.

hello - i travelled the motorway from dublin to limerick yesterday. left dublin at 07:10....roads really bad in dublin (m50), kildare and laois......with snow which became ice the further outside the city i went. To be honest didnt go over about 60kph until after portlaoise. After new toll booth on m7 the roads were clear all the way to limerick.......i know this isnt helpful for cork but it took a good chunk of time to get to the limerick/cork motorway interchange. I found particularly in kildare with motorway that if road looked reasonably clear and i was pushing up to 80kph and changing gears - i was sliding.........i took my time, there is some crazy drivers out there even still, there is some spots for overtaking but not alot.

perhaps head off early tomorrow, take it easy as far as portlaoise and then hopefully road is good after that (like it was for me in limerick)

    safe driving.
