According to the Facebook page of the Gorey Labour District:

"Well done to the Mayor of Gorey Cllr Robert Ireton who has been hailed as a hero when he and a mystery accomplice helped to foil a robbery at the Gorey Pharmacy. Stunned locals looked on as the town mayor chased the robber down the street with an axe. Mayor Ireton advises any other would be criminals, Dont mess with my town."

Fair play to him I say - he wasn't lacking in the undercarriage department when he confronted the criminals!

The mayor foils a robbery with his mystery accomplice?

Sounds like an episode of Scooby Doo.

And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you pesky mayors!

    Was just thinking that!

I wonder does he patrol the town full time with his axe :)

It's a sad state of affairs when facebook pages are seen as references!

It wasn't the bank that was robbed as the thread title spectacurally claims, it was the Gorey Pharmacy
And an axe is different to a hatchet.
