Have a problem with my burner.

Digital timeclock not starting up the burner properly. When I press red-lit reset button on burner. It's starts to fire up then locks out after about 10-15 secs.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to plumbing so help is much needed.

    have u plenty of oil?

does the burner actually fire or does the fans etc just come on and try to fire? you will hear a different sound once it fires.

Could very likely be a fuel shortage problem. What may be the cause is freezing in the oil line or filter. The oil itself won't freeze but any impurities or water will. so the filter at the oil tank is always a good place to start.

    There is plenty of oil.

The fan goes for a bit, then comes a click and sounds like it fires for 2-5 secs then locks out.

when did u last have ur heating running? what I'm trying to establish is - is it a frozen line/oil filter like mickey said above or is it just a common boiler breakdown. photocell or something might need cleaned, oil pump itself could be frozen or jammed.

it was working fine last night. timeclock operates from about 4pm till 11pm. i turned it on about 3pm today and the rads didnt heat. just thought cos of the low temperatures it might take a while to heat up. came home from work and the house was like an ice box

I fear the oil line/filter is frozen. Seen it at loads of jobs this past 2 days (even my dads). Turn off the oil at the tank and disconnect the oil filter, unscrew it and give it a good clean out, reconnect it and try the boiler again.

If it's a boiler that is away from the house, the sooner you get it going the better.

Plenty of boilers have been fixed after a day or two of non use to only find that pipes have frozen in the mean time.
