Curling hair...

    Hi,

I'm sure this has been asked and answered already but unfortunately can't find what I'm looking for so bare with me!

Need peoples help here - anybody advise on what products to put in hair before curling? I'd normally GHD curls and then put roughly a tin of Elnett in to hold it afterwards (slight exaggeration but probablly not far off). Anyway, hair normally ends up like straw, lank... any recommendations for products that I could put in to help the curls stay so I wouldn't need as much hairspray?? I should say that I've long naturally straight hair that while wouldn't be very thick, I do have a lot of it.

    Thanks!

I always find that if you want to curl your hair for a night out washing in the morning time and curling in the evening helps make the curls last longer. The fresher the hair the least hold it has for styling.

It's ok... found a thread where someone suggested mousse... haven't tried it before so will give it a shot!

Thanks Curl52, we posted at the same time there. I'll also try what you suggest - I normally try to curl it straight after I've washed and dried it so leaving it for a while could help too! thanks

The GHD curl definitely holds better when hair is not freshly washed, and even leaving it only from morning to night as Curl52 suggests usually works for me to have the hair hold the curl. Using a salt spray gives the hair more of a 'grip' I find.

Salt spray instead of hairspray? Where would I get it?
    Cheers, L

The way I do mine (I have poker straight hair) is wash it with volumising shampoo and conditioner, then towel dry and put in strong hold mousse.
Then either blowdry it or go to sleep and wake up with it dry.
Then go the GHD curls and they hold for 2 days - even without hairspray (but gotta hide the curls from rain and wind or else they fall out).

Bumble and Bumble is like the cult salt spray(You'd get it in Peter Marks), it's meant to be amazing, but pricy:(

I bought Umberto Giannini salt spray a couple of weeks ago, and it works really well for holding a curl style, but may be better for the 'tousled' look lol! It was about €8 in Boots. Lee Stafford do one too...

You can get sea salt spray in Toni & guy salons from the Label M brand. I adore the stuff, spray, scrunch and go for perfect curls!
